The Legend of the Dogwood Tree-
When Christ was on earth,
The dogwood grew to a
Towering size with lovely hue.
Its branches were strong and interwoven
And for Christ’s cross
Its timbers were chosen.
Being distressed at the use of this wood,
Christ made a promise
Which still holds good:
“Not ever again shall the dogwood grow
To be large enough for such a tree,
And so slender and twisted
It shall always be with cross-shaped Blossoms for all to see.
The petals shall have bloodstains
Marked in brown and in the
Blossom’s center a thorny crown.
All who see it will think of Me,
Nailed to a cross from the dogwood tree.
Protected and cherished this tree shall be
A reflection to all of my agony.” -Author Unknown

Next meeting - April 7 at 7:30 p.m.
In March, the
Trustees spent time
making the final
arrangements for the work day. More to follow!
We reviewed our contracts with the Church of God of
Prophecy and parsonage rental. So far things are
progressing nicely with only minor problems. We have bigger
concerns with temporary group usage of our facility. We are
looking at ways to communicate with these groups.
Work is slowly coming along regarding the sanctuary screen/
projector project and the establishment of a church web site.
Please believe me, these projects are progressing. As the
young say, “at a snails pace.”

We want to extend a special thanks to Emmanuel UMC for

allowing us to have our unit meeting there last month. There

were representatives from several churches in attendance.

The “No More Malaria” presentation by Katie Kevorkian was

informative. Our next unit meeting is April 3 at Del Rosa. We

will gather at 9:30 a.m. and start promptly at 10 a.m.

Following the meeting lunch will be served in the Social Hall,

provided by Joyce Leiffer. Hope to see you there.

Be a Prayer Walker!

Once a month, on a Saturday morning, LIFT Ministries will gather with faithful people of prayer, like you, to spend an hour in the neighborhoods surrounding the United Methodist Churches in our area. We will pray silently as we walk together in small groups, asking God to show us the needs in the community and to love these neighbors as ourselves. As our eyes, minds, and hearts are opened, we'll invite the light of Christ to shine into the dark places and fill the streets with the peace of Christ.

When, Where, How

?

...

The first Prayer Walk will start out from St. Paul's United Methodist Church on Saturday, April 12, at 9 a.m. Wear comfortable shoes and bring your Bible or prayer book. Bring a pen to jot down some notes. Bring an openness to God's Holy Spirit. We will NOT be knocking on doors to evangelize, nor is the intention of these prayer walks to invite people to attend our churches--we are simply listening to God and praying for the community in silence. There will be brief instruction and prayer as a group before we leave each time, then we'll gather once again at the end of our walk to share insights and take time to offer our worship to God. If you are a "prayer warrior", but are unable to walk, we need you, too! Ideally, 2 or 3 people will keep vigil in the sanctuary or chapel at the church while the walkers are out, interceding on their behalf. We'll do our best to be finished in 90 minutes to 2 hours - you'll be home in time for lunch!

If you have any questions, call the LIFT Ministries office (562) 789-0880. Hope to see YOU there! Thank-You.

ROSE OF THE YEAR SUNDAY, MAY 4 Join us in the Social Hall following service for this special recognition. Please bring your own table setting and a flower arrangement for a table.
