Exercise e 1 (Constan nt power loa ad, CPL) The syst tem presente ed in Fig. 1 sh hows a rectiffier coupled to t an inverter r with the obje ective to con ntrol the rotationa al speed of th he motor. The e inverter kee eps the spee ed of the moto or constant ( (this means that the power co onsumed by the system is s constant).

Figure 1. Motor contro ol system. e system com mposed by the rectifier, th he inverter an nd the motor can be reduc ced as is sho own in Then the the Fig. 1 (bottom). The T power co onsumed is P in and is constant. Using the e parameters s in the table e 1. Table 1 . parameters s system. Parameter Va alue [units] Pin 60 0 [kW] V 40 00.0 [V] V 10 0 [V] V is the lline to neutra al voltage, V is the voltag ge deviation. For the syst tem of Fig. 1 : A. F For the voltag ge V in table 1, find the ph hase current consumed by b the system m. sumed by the B. T The voltage applied a to the e system is re educed by 10 0 [V], find the e current cons s system.

Exercise 2. A DC-DC converter has a CPL connected at the output terminals (Fig. 2).

Figure 2. DC-DC converter with CPL. The CPL consumes 40W. At the first state the input voltage is constant 20V. For the second state the input voltage has been changed to 25V. Assume that in all cases the CPL requires the same current. According to Fig. 3a and Fig. 3b. What is the value of ton2 that keeps the CPL working with the two input voltages? The switching frequency is fs=10kHz. The on time of the switch for the first state is ton1=0.5Ts. The parameter Ts is the switching period.

Figure 3. Output voltage time behavior. Use the definitions in chapter one. Exercise 3. The current in a power electronic converter has the shape presented in Fig. 4. Use the definitions of chapter 3. Find: 1. The average value. 2. The RMS for the ripple of the current.
