Activity

Safety
Safety during construction: Where undertaking any part of the work, it is the responsibilities of the applicant/Engineer to seek competent advice to ensure the stability of excavations, superstructure, stanchion foundations, wall foundations and to avoid any other foreseeable risk Power Lines: Keadue WWTP buildings shall not be constructed under or nearer than 10m to an overhead power supply. If advice is required, or if power lines need to be diverted, it is the applicants responsibility to contact, in writing, the local ESB supervisor before construction commences and then to follow the ESB conditions.

Site Preparation
Keadue WWTP roadways should be laid in good weather when soil conditions are dry. All topsoil and soft material shall be excavated to a minimum depth of 150mm or down to a solid stratum. The excavated material shall be suitably disposed of. Where slopes are unavoidable they should be kept to a minimum and be as uniform as possible. Provisions shall be made for drainage of the site. In the case of roads, such culverts and drains as may be required for the stability of the roadway or the drainage of adjacent land shall be provided.

Width of Roadways
All internal Keadue WWTP roadways shall be constructed 4.5m wide, with the width of roadways being increased to 5m for the final 50m leading to the milking parlour

Foundations
The foundation shall consist of 150mm of well-compacted hard-core gravel or dry filling, laid to produce a smooth surface, with gradients corresponding closely to those required in the finished roadway

Road Surface
The roadway should be completed with about 50-75mm (2-3 inches) of a fine material This surface layer or wearing course needs to be laid evenly and compacted. Spread it out to the gradient formed in the foundation layer

Method Statement The material used should ideally have only a very low proportion of pebbles and plenty of very fine and dusty material into which the small pebbles can embed. Any pebbles should be no bigger than 5 or 6mm. It will bind and compact better if it is laid and rolled when wet The finished surface is impermeable to water; hence the importance of having a fall to one or both sides of the roadway.

Camber
To remove water quickly from roadways they should slope to one or both sides A roadway that slopes to one side is easier to construct and machinery runs better on it All roadways shall be constructed with a cross fall of between 1 in 20 and 1 in 30 Water must not be trapped at the edge of the roadway; it must be shed completely and allowed to soak away in the soil. The 1 in 20-30 cross fall should be enough to divert water to the sides even on ground that is from steeply sloping ground
