1. Personal Equipment: Each person w ill demonstrate theu se of their own equipment. Each person will properly [ ]
attach and remove their own equipment, including helmet, harness, snow shoe s, and crampons. In addition, each person
will have a winter 24-Hour SAR Pack ready for travel. (See personal and team equipment list for requirements.)

2. Ice Axe Employment: Each person should be able to demonstrate the proper use of an ice axe while moving over varied
terrain.
All falls will be demonstrated with both strong hand and weak hand.

3. Snowshoe Travel: Each person shall ascend the hillside, traverse on a hillside, and descend a hillside. [ ]

4. Belay: Each person shall be able to demonstrate the proper u se of belay with a ATC like device and Munter hitch.
• Demonstrateconstruction of a personalsnow anchor suitablefor belay using an ice axe and a snow picket. [ ]
• Demonstrate belay of a climbing partner, to ude incl arresting a fall. [ ]

5. Roped Travel: Each person shall be able to demonstrateproficiency in roped travel with one or two companions:
• Demonstratepropershort-ropedteam travel [ ]
• Demonstrate the use of the “Kiwi Coil”. [ ]
• Catch a rope team member during an unexpected fall on a hillside. [ ]

6. Anchor Building:
• Build an anchor with a vertical picket [ ]
• Build an anchor with a horizontal picket [ ]
• Build an anchor using a deadman [ ]
• Build an anchor using a snow ballard. (group effort) [ ]
• Build an anchor by equalizing two pickets [ ]
• Build an anchor from two vertical pickets that are tied together in a straight line. [ ]

7. Setup a Rappel: Each person shall setup a person load rappel using snow anchors. [ ]

8. Escape The Belay: Each person shall escape a belay on a weighted rope with one other person. (This will include [ ]
transferring the loaded rope to an anchor and removing him/herself from the rope.)

8. Shelter: Each person w ill construct and spend the night in an em ergen
cy snow shelter. (Snow caves and igloos are not allowed [ ]
for test purposes.)

9. Prepare a hot evening meal. [ ]

10. Avalanche Transceiver Search : Each person will demonstratethe proper u se of an avalanche transceiver by locating a [ ]
single transceiver buried in a 100 x 100 square foot area in no more than five minutes.
