Program Goals & Objectives

Academic Year: 2013-2014 Institution: Coan Middle School Prepared By: Corinne Smith Goal 1: Acquire adequate print and non-print resources to fully support the curriculum and stimulate student interest in reading. Objective 1: Develop and align the library media collection to support the Georgia Professional Standards and the Common Core Curriculum. Achievable: School Year Measurement: Collection Map Objective 2: Apply and prepare grants that focus on collection development Example: (The Laura Bush Foundation, Dollar General Literacy Foundation). Grants provide additional funding sources to diversify and increase library media collection. Achievable: Semester Measurement: Successful Grant Applications Objective 3: Use book clubs, student recommendation cards, and other methods to stimulate student interest in reading. Achievable: Semester Measurement: Informal Teacher Surveys Goal 2: Provide flexible and equitable access to library media facilities and resources. Objective 1: Adhere to APS policy for flexible access to the library media center. Achievable: Quarter Measurement: Outlook Calendar Objective 2: Provide easy online access to resources using media center website as a resource for parents, students, and teachers. Achievable: Semester Measurement: Teacher Lesson Plans and Outlook Calendar Objective 2: Provide one-on-one and whole-class instruction with lessons that utilizes the library collection, computer technology competencies, and electronic databases. Achievable: Semester Measurement: Teacher Lesson Plans and Outlook Calendar Objective 3: Attend instructional meetings when possible to offer support to teachers and increase knowledge of standards being taught in the classroom. Objective 1: Provide instructional training for teachers and students on digital resources (Talkingbooks.net, Learning.com, Thinkfinity.org, GALILEO, United Streaming.org). Achievable: Semester Measurement: Outlook Calendar and PD Sign in Sheets Objective 2: Provide learning activities for students to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of what they have learned. Conduct informal and formal assessments utilizing the Georgia Online Assessment System (GOAS) and other assessment tools. Achievable: Semester Measurement: Teacher Lesson Plans and Outlook Calendar Objective 3: Provide a weekly newsletter to teachers that updates them on new resources available and post resources for students on website and using Edmodo. Achievable: Measurement: Goal 5: Establish ongoing communication with teachers, parents, students and community stakeholders.

Inform teachers about library media resources, professional developed training and library media sponsored events via APS email.
