Seminar at Calgary Baby & Tot Show Help Children cope with tough feelings
The Calgary Baby & Tot show is gearing up with a variety of exhibitors and presenters coming from all walks of life, designed to help parents deal with a kaleidoscope of issues that comprise modern-day parenting. No doubt there will be a plethora of the usual suspects when it comes to parenting ideas, but author Deborah Miller will be taking a brand new approach to dealing with some of the more intense challenges presented by our little rays of sunshine. The idea that a child experiences emotions like sadness and anxiety can be difficult for parents to cope withwe generally dont associate them with the seemingly carefree existence of a child. While they may not express them in ways adults necessarily understand, all children deal with these same emotions from time to time. An actor, singer, and poet, Deborah was inspired by her daughters brush with the grumblies to create a series of books that offered caregivers a fun tool for helping children to understand, and work through, these emotions. The results are the wildly popular K-3 picture books, Grappling with the Grumblies and Juggling the Jitters. Using engaging imagery and thoughtful writing, her books have been praised by top psychologists, parents, and teachers. Deboraha frequent school and library presenterwill be giving a free seminar at the show, entitled Dealing with Feelings designed to help parents and caregivers work through anger and anxiety in fun and practical ways. The seminars will take place on Saturday at 11:00am and Sunday at 2:15pm.
