Sunny Yu 9/25/12 Plano Symphony Orchestra "Rapturous Rachmaninoff" Concert Eisemann Center; 9/22/12 I attended a classical concert performed

by the Plano Symphony Orchestra titled "Rapturous Rachmaninoff." The concert was very fast and up-tempo, with many difficult portions of the concert where the piece was very technical and exact, much like the work of Bach of the Baroque period. Between these technical challenges, there were interludes of slow, warm melodies that provided a great contrast to the technicalities around it. All in all, I enjoyed the two hour concert and will definitely go back again. For me, my favorite piece that they played at the concert would definitely have to be the Star-Spangled Banner played as the intro of the concert. Although not necessarily a piece of the concert, there is no better feeling than hearing your country's song, especially when it's played by high-level, professional musicians. Also, another important reason this was my favorite element of the performance because it was the only piece that I recognized. There was nothing that I didn't really like about the performance, but there were some other aspects of the concert overall that I thought could've been better. However, the aspect that I thought could be most improved would have to be the behavior of the general audience. Throughout the entire performance, the people on either side of me couldn't sit still which resulted in texting, whispering, and even answering a call. All in all, it made for an unpleasant environment in what otherwise was a good concert. This event relates to humanities because music is one of the six elements of humanities. Also, the style of music that was played is strongly representative of the baroque style, which we studied last year in humanities. If someone asked me whether they should attend the concert, I would definitely tell them yes. First of all, the Plano Symphony played a great concert. From start to finish, every note they played was musically and pleasing to the ear. Also, another reason that I would recommend people go is that the ticket prices were insanely low. I got good seats near the front of the hall for only 10 dollars, but had that have been another concert (like a Dallas Symphony Orchestra concert), it would've most certainly have been at least triple the price. Lastly, a concert is one of the best events to go to for a cultural event. Other events such as museums can be too archaic and dull, but during the course of a concert there is always the element of surprise that keeps the audience on the edge of their seats from start to finish. All in all, I would definitely recommend a
