Related SOL: 5.2 The student will understand and apply movement principles and concepts in complex movement activities. a) Apply principles of accuracy, force, and follow-through when projecting objects. b) Identify and demonstrate basic small-group offensive and defensive tactics and strategies (e.g., body fakes, use of speed, change of direction, keeping body low while moving/guarding). c) Identify and apply principles of practice to enhance performance (e.g., form, consistency, repetition). d) Use feedback, including available technology, to improve performance

Materials Needed: 40-50 foam balls, 16,18 basketballs, 6 trash cans, 17 hula hoops Ability Grouping: When dividing students into 2 teams I will split ability levels. Separating the extremely athletic or talented students into separate teams then separating the lower achieving students into teams so that each team contains a wide variety of skill sets. Students will agree among their teams what strategies to use and what positions will utilize each students strengths to aid in the success of the team as a whole. Each student will define their role after the team planning. Opening: I will begin the activity by explaining to students that everyone has different abilities but everyone has some talent that is helpful to any given situation. In explaining the stations in the game series. I will breakdown the components of each game and why each role is important. -Anticipation Description: Students will break up into teams and discuss roles they believe they would be best at and agree upon a strategy to complete the series. -Contemplation

In Station 1: (Trash Can Ball) Some students needs to designate themselves as shooters, (shooters are never allowed to cross the half court line) but the gatherers of the team are just as important in supplying balls to the shooter. The students are allowed to defend and steal balls from the other team to aid in the success of their team. Once a ball is in every can the station is complete. -Anytime a ball is made into a can the teacher will fill the can upside down so students know. In Station 2: (Half Court Shot) Shooters (Cant pass half-court line) Gatherers, Stealers and Defenders are vital roles in this station as well. Once 2 shots are made from half court with basketball goals the station is complete In Station 3: (Hula Hoop Chain Pass) Students are able to take leadership roles and use communication skills to complete this station. Students will get in a circle with their teammates interlocking hands and move a hula hoops by each student without breaking hands apart. If circle breaks the pass must start over. In Station 4: (Hula Hut Relay) The two teams subdivide so that each team consists of two teams within it. Subteams will ideally have 4-5 students. Groups must use 4 hula hoops to build a hut. Once students have constructed a hut the five members of their group must crawl through the hoop without knocking the hut down. The side that completes both of their teams hula huts and successfully climbs through them completes the series and wins! Closing: After both teams have completed their series begin the class in and circle up to talk about the roles they contributed and why they were important to the group. Talk about how their strengths helped them contribute to the team. -Realization

Assessment: Students will be assessed on what their defined role was within the group and their ability and effort to carry out their role. Shooters will be assessed on their participation and effort of their shots and their cooperation and teamwork with the other team members. Gatherers will be assessed on their participation and effort in gathering the balls from all over the court and assisting the shooters in getting them the balls. Stealer/Defenders will be assessed on their sportsmanship and effort in playing effective defense Communication/Leadership roles will be assessed on their abilities to communicate with their group and the problem solve. Engineers will be assessed on the ability and effort in finding ways to successfully build a hula hut and use cooperative learning to crawl through the structure and complete the series of activities.
