MULTI-PURPOSE COOPERATIVE



In 1991, Simbayanan ni Maria Foundation, Inc. (SMFI) was registered as a
non-stock, non-profit organization, as the parish churchs response to poverty in
Taguig,withFr.AntonioC.T.PascualorFr.Antontohisparishioners,aparishpriest
of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary from 1988 to 1992, as its founding Chairman. It
offeredprogramsonhealthservices,nutrition,skillstraining,andjobplacementas
well as college scholarships. This foundation spun off the Simbayanan ni Maria
Multi-Purpose Cooperative (SMMPC) to develop and undertake socio-economic
programs and activities for the improvement of the quality of life of the people of
LowerBicutanandadjacentbarangaysinTaguig.
In 1992, Fr. Anton was assigned to Makati City. Believing that the
cooperativewouldcollapseifthenextparishpriestdidnothavesocialorientation,
theBoarddecidedtotakeSMMPCoutofthejurisdictionoftheparishchurchand
transformed SMMPC into a community-based cooperative. The SMMPC Board-
cum-Pastoral Council was maintained while a new set of officers was appointed
totheParishPastoralCouncil.ThoughstillinMakatiin1995,Fr.Antonwaselected
SMMPCChairman.
SMMPChasthefollowingobjectives:
1. To promote the cooperative among its members and create funds to be
abletograntloansforproductiveandprovidentialpurposes;
2. Toprocureanddistributecommoditiestomembersandnon-members;
3. Toundertakejointagriculturalorindustrialproduction;
4. Tosupplyproductioninputstomembersandhelpmarkettheproduct
5. Topromoteanintegratedcooperativesystemasawayoflifesoasto
improvethesocialandeconomicwell-beingofthepeople;
6. Toundertakeanyrelatedactivityleadingtothemembersself-government
andtoimprovethepeoplessocialand/oreconomicwell-beingundera
trulyjustanddemocraticsociety;
7. Toworkwiththecooperativemovement,non-governmentandgovernment
organizationsinthepromotionanddevelopmentofcooperativesandin
carryingoutgovernmentpolicies;and
8. Toundertakeotheractivitiesfortheeffectiveandefficientimplementation
oftheprovisionsoftheCooperativeCode.

B. INSURANCE DEATH BENEFIT


Simbayanan ni Maria Multi-Purpose Cooperative (SMMPC) believes
that life insurance certainly is an essential component of the cooperative.
This seeks to protect the members family in the event of a members
untimely demise. With the objective of providing extended services to its
members, the cooperative partners with First Life Insurance in providing
Basic Life Insurance assistance. First Life Insurance is SMMPC accredited
lifeinsuranceprovider.

Existing Members of SMMPC who are below 71 years old and not
less than 18 years old will be covered by the Basic Life Insurance (Php
90,000.00)andPhp10,000.00BurialBenefitthroughFirstLifeInsurance..

NewMembersofSMMPCwhoarebelow 60 years old and not less


than 18 years old whetherRegularorAssociatemembermayapplytobe
covered by the Basic Life Insurance (Php 90,000.00) and Php 10,000.00
BurialBenefitthroughFirstLifeInsurance.

ExistingMembersofSMMPCwhoare71 years old and abovewillbe


covered by the In-House Death Benefit Assistance called as Damayan
TrustFundofPhp30,000.00only.

SMMPC has the right to change the policy from time to time to
improvetheeffectivenessofitsoperationandthepolicysintent.

C. SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP TRAINING & SEMINAR




Simbayanan ni Maria Enterprise Center provides training formation
for business capacity building and developing member entrepreneurs
thereby uplifting human lives and re-integrating them in the society of the
businessworld.TheCenteraimstobuildmoraleofthecooperatorsandto
workwithpeoplewhoaresociallyresponsibleinbusiness;workwithother
groups that have a common aim in bringing about social change,
improving business capabilities of existing enterprise and allowing well-
trained, viable micro entrepreneurs to develop their businesses after
receiving training in the center. This business development programs will
alsoleadtogeneratingsustainableemploymentopportunitiesintheCityof
Taguig.

The Center provides its members and young entrepreneurs


training/seminar on Management Capacity Building: Social
EntrepreneurshipTrainingsuchasFinancialManagementandLeadership
training, Marketing, etc. The Center also provides Skills Training Program:
likefoodprocessing;BodyMassage&Therapeutic,BasicBeadWorks,Fish
Processing,Perfume&CologneMaking,etc.Productexposurelikejoining
tradefairexhibits,localbazaars,andLakbay-Aralformembertolearnmore
about best practices in business and life, through business forums,
innovation and the sharing of know-how, and mutual learning among
entrepreneurs.
