Anticipated Problems & Suggested Solutions: SET TIME LIMITS!
If the students have a hard time listening to the comedian, watch it a few more times or assign it as homework; tell them they dont have to understand everything, just try to catch the gist of the story.
Contingency Plans (what you will do if you finish early, etc.): If we finish early, I will have students look at the Onion article ahead of time in groups
Post-Lesson Reflections:
I thought it was good to review past types of humorit really helped the different types stick with them!
Although I still like the idea of having students watch a stand-up comic, I would pick a different/shorter clip for next time. I think the handout I had contained too many vocabulary words, which confused them (because the clip was too long and had a lot of vocabulary). There were other clips this comedian had online that could have been cut that probably would have been better for the students confidence.
For the second activity I probably should have given the students two jokes to share with their classmates as an example of a humor style as opposed to having them categorize 6 different jokes, as I think it confused them.
Overall, the class seemed relatively engaged, especially when given the jokes and an opportunity to share their interpretation of the meanings. Teaching humor is hard, but enjoyable!
