Canadian History 11

Cold War Seminars

You are required to select, research, organize and present a topic from the list
below and which is related to Canada and the post-war era. YOU and your partner
will be the ones who are teaching this part of the course to the rest of the class!!!

This seminar will be presented with a partner and will include the following:
1. The use of relevant visual aids: poster, PowerPoint, YouTube video, DVD, primary
documents, etc Note: I will have an LCD projector, laptop with speakers and a DVD
player which you can use, but it is YOUR responsibility to check to see if the
computer in my room is compatible with the technology that was used to create
your presentation. If you want to use your own laptop, make sure you know
how to hook it up before you present!
2. In addition to providing visuals during presentation of the content related to your
topic, each pair must have a photo essay that is made using movie maker or similar.
3. You must give a 10-question quiz at the end of your presentation that is made up of
true/false, multiple choice, and fill-in-the-blank type questions. It must have a total
value of 10 points. You must photocopy your quiz for each student in the class
ahead of time. The class may take notes during your presentation and use them for
the quiz. You will be responsible for marking the quizzes and handing in a list of the
marks as well as the marked quizzes the following day. Remember that you are
being marked on the quality of the quizzes as well!
4. You are expected to hand in a copy of your quiz, along with an answer key, ahead of
the date for your presentation.
5. Time Requirement: 35 minutes. You will be stopped at 35 minutes and will only be
marked on what was completed if your presentation runs long.
6. You must present on the day that is assigned to you. If you miss the day of your
presentation, you will need a doctors note to excuse you and you will be given
a separate assignment to complete. If your partner does not show up on the
day of your presentation you must present yourself. Be prepared for
anything!!! If a pair does not present, we go immediately to the next
partnership, so be prepared to present on the first day of presentations.
7. In the event that you are absent during another groups presentation, the absence
would need to be excused to be exempt from the quiz you would miss.
