THE USE OF SOLID WASTE FOR

THE ENVIRONMENT ETERNALITY
A. Introduction
Good morning everyone..!! My name is Muhammad Ghufron Mahfudhi. I
study in the School of Electric Engineering and Informatics. In this occasion, I will
give a presentation about The Use of Solid Waste for the Environment Eternality. I
choose this topic because there are many garbage problems in our environment.
People often throw the garbage anywhere but they think the do not have the
responsible to clean it. Therefore, in this presentation I will tell you how to reduce
the amount of garbage in our environment.
There are two sections in this presentation, the material and the question. The
material section is about 7 minutes and the last 3 minutes is your time to ask your
question to me. The material is divided into three main topics. The first topic is about
the solid waste, the second is about how to reduce the solid waste, and the last is
about the advantage of solid waste processing.
Are you ready for the material section? So, lets start the presentation.
B. The Solid Waste
In this slide I will explain about the solid waste, but before I told you about it,
I want to ask a question. Does anyone here know the definition of solid waste?
Actually, solid waste is thrown materials with free insufficient liquid content to flow.
In a big town like Bandung, it has a big amount. We can see it everywhere even on
the road. A big amount of solid waste or garbage will give much negative impact. It
can break our environment. A heap of garbage can disturb our sight and give a bad
smell. It also bring many diseases because it is a living place for many animals such
as mosquitoes, flies, worms, and other animals which can bring many diseases. It
also can make natural disaster, like flood and landslide. Therefore, we have to do
something to reduce the amount of garbage in our environment.

Lets move to the next slide.

In this slide there are two picture that are considered to the example of solid
waste. The left picture is the picture of garbage in town while the right picture is the
picture of empty bunch of oil palm. Well, they are very disgusting. We must be
unpleased if we go through those places.

C. How to Reduce the Solid Waste?
Lets move to the next slide.
In this slide, I will explain to you that we can reduce the solid waste in many
ways. There are too many ways, but in this presentation I will explain you just four
ways. We can make compost from organic solid waste, recycle the solid waste,
process it to be livestock food and mediator for food crop cultivation, and make
special place to heap up the solid waste. I will explain them.
Lets move to the next slide.

This is the first way to reduce the solid waste. We can make compost from
the organic solid waste. The organic solid wastes that we can use are the organic
household solid waste, paper and paper factory waste, ranch waste, agriculture waste,
sugar factory waste, oil palm factory waste, et cetera. Then, those organic solid
wastes should be decomposed by some specific microorganism to be compost. This
is the picture of compost.

Picture3. Example of Compost

Lets move to the next slide.
The second way is to recycle the solid waste. We can recycle the solid waste
into many better things. We can recycle the paper waste to be picture or photograph
frame decoration or other decoration. We can recycle the oil palm empty bunch
waste to be hardboard, medium density fiber, pulp, and paper. We also can recycle
iron waste or other waste in to fine arts or other art things. By recycling solid waste,
we can produce a fixed added value, so that we can get more money and reduce the
solid waste spreading.
Lets move to the next slide.
The third way is to process it to be livestock food and mediator for food crop
cultivation. Some certain solid waste can not be recycled and processed into manure
or compost, but it can be processed into livestock feed and mediator for food crop
cultivation. Based on Firdayati and Marisas research (2005), cellulose in sugar palm
solid waste can be processed into livestock food and mediator to certain mushroom
which we can eat.
Lets move to the next slide.

The last way is making special place to heap up the solid waste. This is
important because if we throw the solid waste everywhere, we can make more
pollution. So, we have to place it in a special place to decrease the pollution
possibility.
Besides all of that, there are still many ways to reduce the solid waste.
D. The Advantage of Solid Waste Processing
Lets move to the next slide. In this slide I will tell you about the advantages
of Solid Waste Processing.
The Advantages of the Solid Waste Processing:

Economical factor:

We can economize the waste heaping and transportation cost.

The product will be more valuable than the original material.

Environment factor:

Decrease the air pollution caused by waste burning.

Decrease the land necessity for heaping.

Decrease the waste amount.

Health factor:

Decrease disease spreading.

And there are still many advantages that I can not describe.
E.

Conclusion
Lets move to the next slide.
In this slide, I will conclude my presentation. The solid waste is thrown

materials with free insufficient liquid content to flow. Even though the solid waste
have the destructive characteristics, it can be very useful for human beings and other
creature if we care about the handling. The handlings that we should do are making
compost from organic solid waste, recycling it, processing it to be livestock feed and
mediator for food crop cultivation, making special place to heap up it, and still many
more ways to reduce the amount of solid waste. We will get many advantages by
doing that. And this is not easy. We have to realize that a little action like throwing
garbage in the garbage can is very important. We also need cooperation both from
the governments and the societies to make it happen, so that our country will be a
healthier and cleaner country.

F.

Question Section
It is the question answering section now. So, any question?

G.

Closing
This is the end of my presentation, so thank you very much for your attention

and we will meet again in my twenty minute presentation.
