Causes of Noise Pollution

1. Industrialization: Most of the industries use big machines which are capable of producing large
amount of noise. Apart from that, various equipments like compressors, generators, exhaust fans,
grinding mills also participate in producing big noise. Therefore, you must have seen workers in these
factories and industries wearing ear plugs to minimize the effect of noise.

2. Poor Urban Planning: In most of the developing countries, poor urban planning also play a vital role.
Congested houses, large families sharing small space, fight over parking, frequent fights over basic
amenities leads to noise pollution which may disrupt the environment of society.

3. Social Events: Noise is at its peak in most of the social events. Whether it is marriage, parties, pub,
disc or place of worship, people normally flout rules set by the local administration and create nuisance
in the area. People play songs on full volume and dance till midnight which makes the condition of
people living nearby pretty worse. In markets, you can see people selling clothes via making loud noise
to attract the attention of people.

4. Transportation: Large number of vehicles on roads, aeroplanes flying over houses, underground
trains produce heavy noise and people get it difficult to get accustomed to that. The high noise leads to
a situation wherein a normal person lose the ability to hear properly.

5. Construction Activities: Under construction activities like mining, construction of bridges, dams,
buildings, stations, roads, flyovers take place in almost every part of the world. These construction
activities take place everyday as we need more buildings, bridges to accommodate more people and to
reduce traffic congestion. The down point is that these construction equipments are too noisy.

6. Household Chores: We people are surrounded by gadgets and use them extensively in our daily life.
Gadgets like TV, mobile , mixer grinder, pressure cooker, vacuum cleaners , washing machine and dryer,
cooler, air conditioners are minor contributors to the amount of noise that is produced but it affects the
quality of life of your neighborhood in a bad way.
While this form of pollution may seem harmless, it in fact has far reaching consequences. The adverse
effects on the health of the environment are quite severe. Not only is the local wildlife affected by the
pollution, humans also face a number of problems due to it.
Causes of Air Pollution
Air pollution is caused when air in the atmosphere is filled with particulate matter.
The largest source air of pollution in cities is from vehicle exhaust fumes.
Carbon monoxide is the largest air pollutant in the United States, and its number one
source is from vehicle exhausts.
Carbon monoxide is a poisonous, odorless, colorless gas that is formed when burning
fossil fuels such as coal, petroleum and natural gas.
Filters that are not changed regularly in your air conditioning units will accumulate dirt
and cause the spread of pollutants in the air you breathe inside your home.
Chemicals and toxic pollutants likes sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides and carbon dioxide
react with water molecules in the atmosphere to produce acid rain. These pollutants
come from factories, automobiles and any industrial or manufacturing plants.
Another source of air pollution is from dust and dirt that goes airborne due to every day
labor in the agricultural and construction industry. Dust is lifted from tractors working on
fields, and from land clearing and general demolition in the construction industry.
Using household chemicals without adequate ventilation is a major source of indoor air
pollution.
Volcanoes, dust storms, and forest fires are causes of natural air pollution.
What Causes Soil Pollution?

Soil pollution is a result of many activities and experiments done by mankind which end up
contaminating the soil. Here are some of the leading soil pollution causes:

Industrial wastes such as harmful gases and chemicals, agricultural pesticides, fertilizers and
insecticides are the most common causes of soil pollution.
Ignorance towards soil management and related systems.
Unfavorable and harmful irrigation practices.
Improper septic system and management and maintenance of the same.
Leakages from sanitary sewage.
Acid rains, when fumes released from industries get mixed with rains.
Fuel leakages from automobiles, that get washed away due to rain and seep into the nearby soil.
Unhealthy waste management techniques, which are characterized by release of sewage into the
large dumping grounds and nearby streams or rivers.
Causes of Water Pollution
Sewage from domestic households, factories and commercial buildings Sewage that is
treated in water treatment plants is often disposed into the sea. Sewage can be more
problematic when people flush chemicals and pharmaceutical substances down the toilet.
Dumping solid wastes and littering by humans in rivers, lakes and oceans. Littering
items include cardboard, Styrofoam, aluminum, plastic and glass.
Industrial waste from factories, which use freshwater to carry waste from the plant
into rivers, contaminates waters with pollutants such as asbestos, lead, mercury and
petrochemicals.
Oil Pollution caused by oil spills from tankers and oil from ship travel. Oil does not
dissolve in water and forms a thick sludge.
Burning fossil fuels into the air causes the formation of acidic particles in the
atmosphere. When these particles mix with water vapor, the result is acid rain.
An increase in water temperature is caused by global warming and thermal plants that use
lakes and rivers to cool down mechanical equipment.
