Thank you to the AAIM members who volunteered
to chair a committee or serve as a committee
member during this year of conference
preparation, as well as to the presenters who
volunteered to share their expertise. Committee
chairs and committee members have tremendous
responsibilities and share in the success of the
conference. Likewise, AAIM has a remarkable
board who is dedicated to providing the support
necessary to make the conference planning process
a success. Each person's assistance and support
helps to ensure that AAIM will continue to
represent our profession well in the years to come.

AAIM to the Future 2014

Welcome to the 2014 conference for the Arkansas Association of Instructional Media. Our conference chair,
Tracy McAllister, along with the help of an amazing group of volunteers has planned a tremendous conference
for us with excellent keynotes and thought-provoking sessions. We especially extend a heartfelt welcome to
our newcomers and appreciate the excitement and innovation they bring to AAIM. For the next few days
those of you who are new to the organization as well as those who have been members for many years will
have the opportunity to network with some of the best educational minds in the state.
Being a member of AAIM is like being a part of a collective brain.
Within this organization members can address the challenges of professional growth
with fellow educators all over the state and can seek guidance as they continue to
fine-tune their library media programs and stay abreast of dynamic, emerging
educational and technological trends.
It has been my pleasure to preside over this group of committed professionals who
have been an inspiration to me throughout my career. I am pleased to say that the
future of AAIM is in the hands of a strong leadership.
At the conclusion of the conference, I trust you will return to your districts with the knowledge that you have a
strong, committed Professional Learning Network (PLN) that will support you as you develop into leaders,
rather than participants and creators, rather than consumers.
Karen Wells, 2013 AAIM President

21 Developing Digital Literacies
2:00 2:50 FSCC A1 & A2
Presenter - Dustin Summey, Instructor and Instructional Design Specialist, University of Central Arkansas
Audience All Facilitator Betty Larry
Approaching technology through the lens of digital literacies facilitates the development of teachers and
students as tech-savvy digital citizens with skills and competencies who can adapt to technology that is
constantly evolving. Digital literacies shift the focus away from technology as a tool because such tools are
changing faster than we can keep up. This paradigm shift in technology-infused teaching and learning can be
realized when first modeled by teacher leaders and then supported through ongoing collaboration embedded
within the broader scope of professional and instructional development. In this session, participants will
explore an approach for facilitating the integration of digital literacies in teaching and learning that capitalizes
