An American Werewolf in London. Dir. John Landis. Perf. David Naughton, Griffin
Dunne. Universal Pictures. 1981. DVD.
Summary
This film displayed the quality characteristics of the werewolf as a ravenous and
monstrous beast. When the wolf from the moors in England attacks David, he transforms
into a werewolf the next full moon. This movie was intended to be purely for horror and
those who enjoy the genre. It became a classic and is a good example of werewolf fiction.
Another aspect of this movie was the look of the werewolf. It had become very terrifying
in this films depiction.
Reflection
I thought this movie was perfect for showing the transition from a human-like
creature into a horrific monster. The film was good at showing the imagery of the
werewolf and its deathly capabilities. It worked well in my paper because it showed what
the werewolf looked like and how it changed in forty years. I think my audience will see
the differences when they are pointed out.

And Parodox." Journal Of American Culture (01911813) 19.3 (1996): 103.

Summary
Werewolves have been deeply engraved in many different cultures. In the past six
decades, werewolves have increased in popularity, especially in cinema. The concept of
Shape-shifting is best seen through the example of the werewolf. The werewolf is a
very symbolic creature for cultures and shows humans interest in tales and history. The
evil aspects of the werewolf are still prominent, as can be seen today.
Reflection
I liked this article because it gave a lot of background information on the
werewolf and its history. It also analyzes several different popular films that feature
werewolves in recent years. It also discusses how werewolves are symbolic in different
cultures. It helped me see the transfer from culture and legend into pop culture.

Teen Wolf. Dir. Rod Daniel. Perf. Michael J. Fox, James Hampton. Metro-Goldwyn-
Mayer. 1985. DVD.
Summary
This film is the story of Scott Howard in his high school days as a teenager. Scott
finds out he can turn into a werewolf just like others in his family. Instead of this being a
bad thing, Scott uses it to his advantage to impress people. He uses his skill on the
basketball court and to try and get girls. He isnt shown in a negative context in this film.
Reflection
This movie was a good fit for my paper because it showed how the werewolf was
becoming something other than a horror icon. The werewolf was used in a comedic way
and I thought this worked well into my paper. It showed different sides that a werewolf
character could possess. In this case, Scott was young and funny and just happened to be
a werewolf as well.

The Twilight Saga: New Moon. Dir. Chris Weitz. Perf. Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson,
Taylor Lautner. Summit Entertainment. 2009. DVD.
Summary
This movie portrays the werewolf in a new light. The main werewolf protagonist,
Jacob, played by Taylor Lautner suggests a sexual tone to the viewer. This is something
that had really been seen before in the werewolf genre. These werewolves were still
strong, fast, and fearful, but they were much less gruesome than others before its time.
The romantic part of the creatures appeal to many young women who watch the film(s).
Reflection
I wanted to use this movie as an example because it is fairly recent. It shows what
some of todays society want to think of werewolves as. This was a drastic change from
the monster from The Wolf Man because werewolves werent hated in Twilight; they
were looked at as some kind of sexy heroes. The sexual tone I wanted to emphasize in the
paper because it is something we have talked about often in class discussions and just my
luck that there happens to be a movie that has werewolves and a sexual undertone.

Walsh, Jim. Wolf Blitzers: Werewolves Taking over Pop Culture. Chicago Tribune.
Chicago Tribune, 26 Jan. 2009. Web. 8 Apr. 2014.
Summary
The werewolf is becoming much more prevalent in pop culture today, especially
in the genre of horror. Films have started to use werewolves in the past few years. Movies
such as Underworld: Rise of the Lycans, The Twilight Saga: New Moon, The Wolf Man
(2010), and other rumored upcoming films contain werewolves. Underworld: Rise of the
Lycans grossed 20.7 million dollars in one weekend. This news article just shows how
much werewolves are beginning to take hold in pop culture fascination today.
Reflection
I wanted to use this article because it directly related to my question. It showed
there is a correlation with the increasing popularity in werewolves as time goes on. I also
wanted to use a tweet to back up one of my opinions. I wanted to use the tweet to show
how others feel about werewolves. People think they are becoming sexy. This went
well with my example of the Twilight werewolf and Taylor Lautners character.
