Electromagnetic flow meters are used to measure the speed of water flow in water

distribution systems and to measure the flow rate of electrically conducting

liquids, pastes and slurries (viscosity less than 200 cps). Electromagnetic flow
meters are the ideal option where there is an occurrence of debris or sand which
would affect most industrial mechanical flow meters. They work on the physical
principle of electromagnetic induction as per Faraday’s law of electromagnetism
and factors like temperature, pressure, density and viscosity have no influence on
the result. They have low maintenance cost and long life because of the absence of
moving parts.

Electromagnetic flow meters are available in a wide range of materials, liners and
process connections. Some of the sectors where they find usage include:
 Chemical, steel, power and pharmaceutical industries
 Water and waste water
 Food and beverage industry
 Mining and cement industries
 Pulp and paper industry
 Chilled water plants

An electromagnetic flow meter is invaluable for companies that run water or

wastewater treatments to measure the instantaneous and cumulative water flow that
runs through the treatment system.

Choosing an Appropriate Electromagnetic Flow Meter

When choosing an electromagnetic flow meter, an important factor to check out is
the exterior, to ensure that it can withstand a harsh environment, and is
adequately protected to counter sensor failure due to water ingression. During low
velocity conditions an electromagnetic flow meter with digital signal processing
capability with an in-built amplifier would give the accurate flow rate.

A selection between insertion type and full bore type flow meter is made based on
application and line size. These are available in 2/4 wire system with LED or LCD
display option.

Electronet Equipments Pvt Ltd (http://electronetequipments.com/index.html) an

India based process control instruments company offers electromagnetic flow meters
for diverse applications, industries, fluid types and process conditions. All the
flow meters are full-bore type, available in Flame-proof, IP-65, and CMRI
certified enclosure and come with a broad range of flow measurement capabilities,
longer battery life, and the ability to work well in clean and dirty liquids.
Insertion type flow meters are available for bigger line size.

They are designed for both short-term and long-term flow monitoring applications
operating over wide ranges of temperature & pressure. Electronet Equipments has
in-house flow lab facility for calibration.
