Apprentices get revd up over concept Mini
ITS NOT every day as an
apprentice you get to build
a new concept car for your
employer.
However that is exactly
what a lucky few trainees
did when BMW tasked
them to make their design
study a reality.
Choosing the firms Mini
Paceman as the donor car,
talented apprentices trans-
formed the vehicle into a
rugged two-door pick-up, a
long way from the original
motors sleek coupe ori-
gins.
And this was no superfi-
cial cosmetic upgrade as,
along with the cars extra
spotlights, chunky tyres
and roof-mounted rack,
the Paceman Adventure
concept gained a fully
functioning pick-up load
bed complete with a bash-
proof lining, plus a snor-
kel and raised suspension
to make use of its all-wheel
drive running gear.
In keeping with the cars
outdoor-theme, it was fin-
ished in a rather fetching
shade of metallic green.
Despite the work done by
its apprentices, BMW said
it has no plans to put the
car into production.
Youll have to make do
with a regular Country-
man if you want a genuine
Mini adventure.
