Good morning, dear teacher and students!

Today, Im going to talk about Teenagers slangs.

In my presentation today Ill be discussing how slangs influence people, especially
teenagers.
Ive divided my presentation into five parts. They are.
Right, Id like to begin with my first point. What is slang? Slang , consists of
a lexicon of non-standard words and phrases in a given language. Use of these words
and phrases is typically associated with the subversion of a standard Variety (such
as Standard English) and is likely to be interpreted by listeners as implying particular
attitudes on the part of the speaker.
Next, teenage Slang a second language. Young people tend to have a language of
their own and if you're someone who likes to stay current or are just having a hard time
reading into your kids' Facebook walls or texts, we're here to make your vocabulary
much more relevant. And as we head towards the holidays, you may just impress the
younger crowd at your family dinner and even use words like "salty" when they're
appropriate. One of the first signs of impending, adolescence is the desire to put space
between you and your parents generation, and the fastest way to do that is through the
art of language.
Do parents know the teenage language or not? I think yes. Why? Id like to draw
your attention to next picture. This is a discussion between may be a grandson and
grandmother, and she doesnt understand what he say, because he talks in teenage
language. Barbara Greenberg, author of Teenage as a Second Language: A Parents
Guide to Becoming Bilingual, advises learning what your teens words mean. You
need to understand slang because you need to know what your children are
talking about, she stresses. Thats how you learn whats going on in their lives.
Ill now move on to my next point which is advantages and disadvantages of
teenagers slang. We use slang for
As an exercise in wit or ingenuity;
To add concreteness in speech;
For ease of social interaction;
To enrich the language;
To induce intimacy
To be arresting;
To be secret;
For the fun of it.

But everything in the world has disadvantage too. Slang words have 2 problems.
First, it creates a barrier to communication for the uninitiated (neinitiati).
Second, because most slang is short, favoring one-syllable words, it leads to the use of
cliches, rather than the use of more precise words. Dependence on slang can lead to
fuzzy 9pufos,,zbarlit) thinking. A study revealed more than four-in-10 teachers failed to
understand some pupils' writing because it was so littered (murdarit) with obscure
language. According to the survey of 500 teachers, almost 55 per cent believed
children's grammar was now worse than it used to be.
Now I'd like to look at types of slangs. We have 3 types: internet slang, texting and
slang in communication. The Internet is really helpful when it comes to learning
different vocabulary. There are a lot of abbreviations used but they hardly impact the
writing style for younger people. The language used in chat rooms and forums is
different than the language used when writing an essay or school related assignment.
Texting has become a preferred method of communication for many teens, and with
it comes another set of jargon to learn. Here are some texting abbreviations to watch
out for.
Lets start by looking at this, where we have some abbreviations. Next, there are
smiles which we use when text a message. Next there are words what we use in our day
by day communication.
Well, that brings us to the end of the final section. Now, Id like to summarise by
how slangs influences our society. Slang greatly influences today's society. Many terms,
phrases and words that are used in slang often become meaningful in the casual form of
speech. Instead of greeting my friends with a proper "Hello" or "What's going on?" I
usually say "Wassup!" or "What they do?" Slang definitely influences today's society.
One slang term recently added to the Oxford English Dictionary is "bling-bling." This
word began as slang to describe stylish jewelry but is now accepted as part of the
English language. I personally resort to slang because it is widely understood and in
most cases, easier to prove a point with than using regular language. Also, some people
subconsciously use slang without knowing it because it just flows.
