How to Fake a Bound Mitered Corner with WEBBOND Making a mitered corner is tricky at best. This is a fast and easy way to make a fake mitered corner. This method can come in very handy if you are making a project for every- day use. This technique works best on smaller items but can used on large ones as well. This will show you the technique on fake mitered corners. We are just showing a small sample but you can use this technique on any size item you want. Supplies: Item that needs binding Enough binding fabric to make enough 2 wide binding to go all the way around your project Meter WEBBOND Metler Silk Finish Coton Thread (50 wt) Rotary cuter and plastc quiltng ruler
2 Fake a mitered corner www.amann-metler.com Step 1. Cut binding 2 inches wide. For this type of binding, straight of grain binding works best. Step 2. Fold and press binding exactly in half. (fgure 2) Step 3. Unfold binding and take one raw edge, fold and press into the center fold. Take the other raw edge and do the same. Now you have a pressed cen- ter line and both edges folded to the middle. (fgure 2A) Spray folded binding with Metler WEB Bond. Lay your project edge on the middle folded line of the binding and fn- ger press down onto the binding to adhere. (fgure 4) Take the other half of binding and fold over the top edge of the project. Sttch in place using a zigzag sttch. (fgure 5) Cut binding even with the raw edges of your project. Step 5. Do the opposite side of your project the exact same way, cutng the edges of the binding even with the ends of the project. IMPORTANT, you must do the opposite side before you start on the connectng ends. Figure 4 Figure 5 4 Fake a mitered corner www.amann-metler.com Step 6. The only change in the other 2 sides is this. Spray end of binding and turn under 1/4 inch. (fgure 6) Spray the turned under hem and turn down both sides to a 45 degree angle to the center. (fgure 7) Step 7. Spray several inches of the binding and place your project edge onto half of the binding, butng the edge up against the fold of the binding. (fgure 8) Take the other half of the binding and fold over the top of the project. Step 8. Zig Zag in place but stop sewing a few inches from the end. Cut the end of the binding even with your project and fold the end of the binding the same way as the beginning. You may need to spray a bit more adhesive in this area.
