DEPARTMENT INFORMATION
This area is concerned with the build and support of network elements in an
exciting, ever evolving area. Dealing with internal customers, design and
suppliers, the successful candidate will build relationships with many teams.
BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION
To support the various platforms located within the O2 environment which
are used for integration testing and live operational support.
The specific role focuses on the provision and support of core network
infrastructure, but encompasses support for networks across all
environments supported by the team.
To oversee, manage, schedule and implement changes to the O2
environment.
To oversee and manage (if applicable) team members within the
environment.
Tracking changes in a form of version control/configuration management,
and maintaining that data.
Create and follow/adapt process for above tasks.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Support Engineer will be required to provide first and second line
support for customers across all environments
Provide guidance and support for new and revised network configurations
Taking ownership of customer issues through to resolution is imperative to
the role.
To configure standard platform builds to ensure they work within the
Reference environment and live environments.
The role will require the regular implementation of Statement of Works
(SoWs) and CRs
Act as systems administrator and provide support across all platforms and
Reference environments
Perform regular proactive analysis of monitoring system outputs and
Network Support Engineer
escalate as necessary.
Implement and document network connectivity and configuration
Perform network diagnostics and fault-finding in support of projects
Good understanding of mobile data and Internet services
Experienced in project management skills
Exposure and experience working in a live environment utilising change
control process.
Broad knowledge of TCP/IP and associated protocols, including NAT/PAT,
DNS and VRFs, specifically in Cisco router/switch and F5 load balancer
products
Broad Unix skills, in either Solaris or Linux, specifically in Sun and Dell
environments.
Broad working knowledge of Crossbeam, Checkpoint and Cisco ASA
firewalls
Basic understanding of Radius protocol and its use in IP address allocation
process
Basic understanding of VM Ware ESX configuration
Excellent documentation recording and policing skills
Be self-motivated
Be prepared to work out of hours, when required
Be prepared to be on call if required.
Live within 2 hours driving time from Slough/Marlow
Good interpersonal skills
Must be customer focused, and keen to ensure customer satisfaction
Should show flexibility, tenacity & resilience when resolving problems
Has strong ability to react and work within a dynamic environment with
rapidly changing priorities
Must be extremely well organised, able to work within a team and multi-task
in a pressured environment
Will exhibit good communication skills, both verbal and written.
