(I understand scales as if they were math equations, the equation or formula is always the
same, the only thing that changes are the numbers, in this case, the notes. Be careful with
the 3
rd
and 7
th
degree ( step to the next) and with E and B wherever you place them, so
you dont forget to add the right sharps and flats. We are used to think in C Major, so its
common to assume that after E comes F and after B comes C, but that is not always the
case, because they are not always 3
rd
and 7
th
degrees).

1. Choose a Key and use its IV and V degree.
2. Pick a mode and find the right note for it in that Key.
3. Make the bass note be the same of the mode youve chosen!

(In the example, all bass notes are C, but notice they are a different degree in each Key.
Look at the Bb example If you wanted to use Phrygian instead of Dorian, it would be D
Phrygian and the chords would be Eb/D and F/D. Mystery solved?!)
