Executive Summary(
T!P MAP" #as created in $%&' by the Technology depart(ent at T!P. This
application is a)ailable for android and iPhone. T!P (aps is an application that guides
users into the ca(pus. The application also guides users around construction areas. The
application being so ne# substantially needs i(pro)e(ents* reason for this report. All
throughout a detailed report of this fe# suggestions #ill be (entioned. "uggested
changes are as follo#: The need to ha)e specific directions gi)en once users is inside
the building.

Throughout the years the ni)ersity of Te+as At !l Paso has had the priority to
(a,e the students- li)es as si(ple and easy as possible in order to pro)ide a great
college e+perience. .ith this co(e i(pro)e(ents (ade to the ca(pus and to the #ay
the ca(pus #or,s. At one point the ni)ersity
started by ha)ing guides* these #ere actual
students that #ould sho# you through the
ca(pus during the first days of school. This
#ould (a,e the tra)eling fro( building to
building less stressful. Along #ith the guides*
(aps #ere pro)ided #ith the se(ester class
catalogs so that #hile planning for classes you
could also plan your tra)el ti(e. These (aps
#ere a)ailable at the student ser)ices building
and the ad)ising center. As ti(e and technology
de)eloped* T!P de)eloped their #ebsite/ the
ulti(ate goal #as to con)ert the uni)ersity into a
paperless and green ca(pus as (uch as possible.
This ga)e the uni)ersity the ad)antage to create
(any different useful lin,s such as 0T!P Maps1. This (ade it a)ailable any ti(e fro(
any#here. The cons about this #as that the (ap resolution #as poor since it #as only a
picture* or a PD2 file that let you only zoo( in and pointed the buildings and
"treets and path#ays #ere not (entioned.
.ith the #orld ha)ing technology literally on our hands by #ays of our cell
phones* the uni)ersity had to 3uic,ly ,eep up #ith it and no# (ade a phone application.
This application can be accessed fro( your
(obile phone at any ti(e and it has detailed
infor(ation about ca(pus. !)en streets and
paths are labeled on this application. T!P
Maps is a )ery useful application not only
for students* but also for professors and
)isitors. 0This app allo#s anyone #ho needs
to find their #ay around the T!P ca(pus
to easily locate buildings* depart(ents* and
offices #ith ease. The application currently
lists o)er $%% T!P locations and is
gro#ing.1 4T!P MAP" $%%'5 The only
disad)antage about this application is that
the app only guides you through to the designated building.
De)eloping phone applications is not an easy tas, and is )ery understandable to
ha)e fla#s on first tries. 6(pro)e(ents need to be (ade to this application* for e+a(ple:
application #ould be capable of gi)ing a route to specific location of inside the
building. This could be a great benefit to the consu(er #ho in often ti(e is in a rush7 all
this changes could be (ade by the de)elopers of the app. According to one of T!P-s
Acade(ic Technologist 06n order for

#ill be added to the application.1

sensory input such as graphics or 9P"

application #ill ta,e users inside the
building and to their classroo(. The

#hen inputting the designated building
in the search bo+ users #ill also be able to input the roo( nu(ber as #ell. The
application #ill guide users to the designated building* then inside the building to their
classroo(. The (odification of this application is created to help students around
ca(pus.
According to one of T!P-s Acade(ic technologist Robert Munoz* This
application #ill ha)e the sa(e Acade(ic Technologies of the ni)ersity of !l Paso
Te+as Maps. De)elopers #ill organize it into the T!P Maps app. The application
needs to be de)eloped by a co(puter scientist to (a,e the codes for each building.
;irtual Tour soft#are #ill be useful for the application. ;ideo pictures of each
buildings* hall#ays and classroo(s #ill also be pro)ided. :y creating the )ideo
pictures* there #ill be a <=%8degree ca(era that #ould capture as the de)ice goes
throughout the ca(pus and each building. This <=%8degree )ideo #ill pro)ide a <=%
)ideo panora(ic )irtual tour that #ill ta,e single shot fra(es that #ill #al, the user to
designate. As #ell there #ill be a 9P" code that #ill pro)ide that application to ,no#
#here the user is located. 2loor plans of the buildings #ill also be a)ailable for the
(odification of the application.
The benefits for the de)eloper on this (odified application/ the application #ill
ha)e (ore students* especially ne# students* to do#nload the T!P app. 6f the
application is a success the de)eloper (ay ha)e other uni)ersities #illing to pay for the
progra(s to de)elop the sa(e application for their uni)ersities. The benefits for the
consu(er for this application #ill pro)ide the students an easier and faster route to their
classes. They #ill earn a lot of ti(e* not only to get to the building but #hile inside the
building they #ill ,no# #here e+actly their classroo( #ill be. Another benefit of this
application is that the student #ill not ha)e to pay for this upgrade. The do#nfall about
this application li,e any other application is that this application #or,s #ith 6nternet.
2ortunately T!P ca(pus is e3uipped #ith .i82i throughout the ca(pus. This can still
cause a proble( to this application.
Modification of T!P Maps #ill only i(pro)e the college e+perience to T!P
students. T!P students being the pri(ary users #ill ha)e the ad)antage to plan ahead
schedule classes properly #ithout ha)e to #orry if they get lost. This (odification #ill
only i(pro)e the T!P Map application. 6t #ill be easier for all users #hen )isiting the
T!P ca(pus.
