[EXPERIMENT 2 QSE LAB]
Estimated cost of a proposed building from materials and labour by CBRI method .
EXPERIMENT NO - 2
TITLE
Estimated cost of a proposed Single storey building of plinth area = 150 m
2
from materials
and labour by CBRI method .
THEORY
By this method approximate estimates are prepared for prototype structures or units
consisting of several works after comparing with past records of expenses for such works.
Such estimate can be prepared quickly even during meetings. But expert knowledge is
necessary to estimate the present cost of construction as compared to the previous recorded
cost.
a) Cost from materials and labour:- Emperical equations developed by Central Building
Research Institute (CBRI) Roorkee are used in estimating approximate quantities of
materials and labour by taking plinth area as input.

PROCEDURE
1) We have found out the quantities of each material and labour by inputing plinth area
given i.e 150 m
2
in the equation given by CBRI for single storey building.
2) We multiplied the quantities of each materials and labour by their unit rate given and
found out amount of each material (Cost A) and labour (Cost B).
3) Summation of amount of material and labour is done to find out total construction
cost of single storey building (Cost A + Cost B)
OBSERVATION AND CALCULATIONS
a) Plinth Area = 150 m
2
(Given)
b) Unit Rates = From Schedule of rates or (Given)
c) Materials=

d) Labour

Total Construction cost = A + B
i.e. Rs 470665.45 + Rs 235650
Total Construction cost = Rs 706315

RESULT
The Estimation of proposed single storey building of plinth Area 150 m
2
is found out to be Rs
706315 ( Rupees Seven Lacs Six thousand Three Hundred Fifteen ) using CBRI Method.
