PROBLEM STATEMENT

Nowadays, many varieties of pollutions have occurs in our country that produced by
factories and high scale of industrials lead to increase the ratio of air pollution and affected to
the air quality index especially to the chosen project area. Besides, the bad condition of road
surface has brought serious affects especially to the road users and local communities living
nearby. The overload trucks carrying timber and other materials have damaging the road as
the road pavement could not sustain excess loading capacity permitted for the road and
therefore damaging the structural properties of the road. Local communities living nearby
have been living in constrain environment due to the industrial activities. The factories on the
location area had produces huge amount of smoke into the air. These smokes contain
hazardous and poisonous gas such as sulphur dioxide and carbon dioxide as a result from the
combustion of fossil fuel. The local communities are no longer having a good fresh air as the
air surrounding has been polluted.
The food hygienes aspect has been a main talking point too because of its effects
towards human health. The set up of nearby stall which serving foods for the industrial
workers brings uncertainties over the food preparations and cleanliness of the premises as
smokes from industrial and mobile transportations causing food contamination. Industrial
activities nearby producing huge amount of waste disposals to the surrounding area which
may contribute to the water and air pollution. Furthermore, existing poor drainage system
may create problems such as flash floods during heavy rain downpour as well as road
pavement deformation.
In order to overcome the problems faced by the local communities concerning about the
effects of industrial activities. Various approaches which help to improve in terms of
environment and safety aspects will be defined and discussed on the following chapters of
this project report. The person who can analyse the problem and solutions is the engineer.
The engineer itself can perform at least three major functions in facilitating the management
of technological risk and disaster that includes the advancement of engineering knowledge,
the protection of ethical engineers; and the promotion and enforcement of codes of ethics.
From here, we as an engineer will play an important role towards improving the livelihood of
the local communities. This is done by building the necessary infrastructure such as proper
drainage and road system as well as environmental precaution proposal

Introduction
The main aim of the project is to study on the role and the contribution of the engineers in
different sectors and responds towards the societies for the sustainable future development.
Engineers play a vital role by working to develop economics and safe solutions to practical
problems, by applying mathematics, scientific knowledge and ingenuity gained by study,
experience, and practice is applied with judgement to develop ways to utilize, economically,
the materials and the forces of nature for the benefits of mankind while considering technical
constrains.
The work of engineers is the link between perceived needs of society and commercial
applications. In this study, a location was selected for the case study analysis based on the
role of engineer and the contribution of the engineers in different sectors and responds
towards the societies for the sustainable future development. The selected area is the road
towards Evergreen factory in Parit Raja, Batu Pahat Johor. This project is selected to provide
assessment on the issues face by the local communities living nearby in terms of road
conditions and major pollutions created by the factory. This aim is to gives a better
understanding on the problems of the issues regarding to the local communities especially in
terms of safety hazards and pollution effects on the surrounding environment.
It is hoped that the objective of this project achieved successfully through a better
understanding and appropriate knowledge on the environmental and provide solutions to
enable the society live healthy and ensuring the environment aspects to be more manageable
for the sustainable development.
