Teacher will present the SMART board lesson to the students. The lesson will inform students that
animals are consumers because they do not make their own food. The SMART oard lesson will then ask
students to put that information into practice by choosin! the food each animal eats. The lesson will then
move on to e"plainin! herbivores #browsers and !ra$ers%. The teacher will then move the lesson on to
carnivores #predators and prey%. The class will then learn about omnivores throu!h the SMART oard
lesson. As a class the students will then cate!ori$e various animals into !roups of herbivores& carnivores&
or omnivores. They will then participate in two simple 'uestions to check for understandin!.
REVIEW AND ASSESSMENT:

Teacher will !ive the students a !roup of cards. Three cards will be labeled (omnivore)& (herbivore)& and
(carnivore). The rest of the cards will be pictures of various animals. The students will be directed to
place the animals into their appropriate cate!ory to ensure comprehension.
EXTENSION:
Students will participate in a matchin! !ame. There will be a deck of cards laid out on the table. *orkin!
with a partner& students will take turns flippin! two cards over and tryin! to match an animal with the
foods they eat.
