THE SHAWL

This shawl can be knitted with any yarn on any needles, depending on the result we want to achieve.
Laceweight yarn and big needles will turn it into ethereal summer shawl; bulkier yarn will make it a great
winter scarf.

THE PATTERN

Cast on multiple of 15 stitches + 9 (at least 39 sts)

R1-6: garter stitch (knit on both sides)

R7 (right side): K5 *YO K5 SSK K2TOG K5 YO K1*, rep *_*, YO K5 SSK K2TOG K5 YO K5

(first and last K5 are garter - they give the shawl a frame and prevent the edges from rolling; the *_* part
can be repeated as many times as needed)

R8 (wrong side): K5, purl the stitches between the frame, and finish the row with K5

repeat rows 7-8 as many times as you want

final rows:
RS (right side) repeat R7
next row, WS (wrong side) knit
next 5 rows (both RS and WS) knit
bind off on the wrong side (knit bind-off)

CAST-ON HINT: if you want your shawl to have identical ends, start with provisional cast-on (remember to
leave enough yarn to be able to bind off). Then transfer the stitches to the needle (first row knitted with
your project yarn), remove the and purl cast-off.

knit cast-off: knit the first stitch, *knit the next stitch and pass the first one over the second; repeat from *
purl cast-off: purl the first stitch, *purl the next stitch and pass the first one over the second; repeat from *

BLOCKING

When you've finished your knitting, soak your piece in lukewarm water (you might want to use a special
yarn detergent look for the washing instructions on your yarn label); using a towel gently squeeze out the
water from the scarf until its damp. Lay flat, gently stretching it into shape. With some yarns blocking wires
will be required. Pins are recommended only for the short edges (the pattern creates a wavy border, you
might use them to define those waves).
