As the owner of a small business located in Rensselaer County, I ask thaI vou
please gi\'e favorable consideration 10 the following issue.
It is my understanding that very shortly, the New York Stale Office .for
Technology is publishing a request for Proposal, (REI') for a statewide Wireless
Communication System, to be used by all State Agencies, . .
Further, this system would be available for use by non-stale government entities
such as local police departments, fire, rescue and EMS services .
One of the manufacturers who will be submitting a response to this RFP will be
Motorola.
Wells Communications has been under contract as a service organization with
Motorola for fifty years. We are also a Dealer for radio sales and recently we became an
Agent for more sophisticated high end, public safety communicati ons sales,
We resultantly have a lor riding on the success of this project.
Therefore , [ ask thar you consider the following:
As Senate Majority Leader, this project, (no mailer who the successful bidder is),
must be approved by you, in order for anything to happen. Aside from the Stale's
needs, local government communications systems have been in need of such a
service, which offers statewide inter-operability, for years. This is the most cost
effective method to ensure that the communications and wireless data needs
