Hannah Che, featured soloist

Hannah Che (17) is a senior in high school, and is currently in her third year as
violinist in the Pittsburgh Youth Symphony Orchestra.

Hannah started playing the violin before the age of five. She won her first
violin scholarship at age six, placed in her first concerto competition at age
eight, and over the past years has participated in numerous recitals and
performance events. Her recent violin teachers have included Christopher Wu,
Rufina Yefimova and Lisa Marsnik.

Hannah began her piano studies with Grace Chuang in Michigan before the age
of six. In 2003, she won 1st prize in the Oakland Piano Teachers Forum
Scholarship Competition, and in 2004, she won first place in the piano duet
category and second place in the Length of Study category of the American Guild
of Music 27th Annual Great Lakes Competition. Later, while living in China,
Hannah passed with honors both levels six and nine in two consecutive years of
the Chinese Musicians Association Grade Examinations for piano. After moving
to Pittsburgh in 2008, she studied under Dr. Sha Wang for nearly two years,
winning first prize in the Pittsburgh Piano Teachers Association (PPTA) Junior Solo Competition in 2009.

Hannah currently studies with Dr. Marina Lupinacci. She has performed for events including the PPTA
Great Performer Series, the UPMC Foundation's Legacy Music Series and the CMU School of Musics
Chopin Bicentennial Celebration. Hannah was named Steinway Young Artist by the Steinway Society of
Western PA for three consecutive years, and has given pre-concert performances at Heinz Hall as a
result. She won first prize in the 2011 Duquesne Young Artist National Competition, and in 2012, won the
Pittsburgh Concert Society Young Artist competition, receiving a Benjamin and Anna Perlow Music
Scholarship.

Most recently, she was selected as one of nine finalists in the 2013 David DuBois International Piano
Competition in February. She has also received top prizes in the 2012 WVU Summer Festivals National
High School Classical Piano Competition, the 2012 Streator-Smith Memorial Competition, and the 2012
MTNA Senior Piano Performance state competition. In addition, as winner of the concerto competitions of
the Butler County Symphony Orchestra and the McKeesport Symphony Orchestra, she performed as guest
soloist with the orchestras in spring concerts in 2012 and 2013, respectively. She has been featured on
the Saturday Light Brigade radio show and the WISR Butler radio station with Dave Malarkey, and has
performed in numerous masterclasses, including those of Nathan Hess, Christine Kefferstan, and Soyeon
Lee. This summer, she was invited to attend the 2013 Southeastern Piano Festival in South Carolina and
compete in the 2013 Arthur Fraser International Piano Competition.

Hannah will attend Rice University this fall, pursuing a degree in piano performance at the Shepherd
School of Music. She would like to thank her family, who has always been supportive of her musical
endeavors, her teacher Marina Lupinacci, who has played an indispensable role in her musical growth, and
most importantly her Lord Jesus Christ, who has provided her with abundant grace and guidance
throughout her life.
