Reflection Professional Value
The beginning of my internship was definitely overwhelming, as I was quickly thrown into
essentially every type of public relations and public affairs function that Qorvis has. I conducted
research for several of Qorvis clients, which wasnt what I really expected. The research I was
asked to do was very strategic and specific, but it was great to learn exactly the way they wanted
me to do it because it would prove useful for the remainder of my internship, which consisted of
hours upon hours of research. Another important aspect of the first third of my internship was
searching for media clips and assembling digital clip books of media coverage for Monster Jam.
Putting together these clip books is important to the client, Feld Entertainment, so that the client
can see that Qorvis is doing its job of earning media placement for Monster Jam. Learning how
to compile media lists was also an important part of this portion of my internship, as I would be
creating several throughout my internship. The media lists played a huge role in deciding which
reporters and outlets Qorvis would reach out to on behalf of its clients. I also had never created
media lists, so having a crash course in them will absolutely prove useful in any public relations
job I have.

Reflection Personal Value
I have really enjoyed the first part of my internship. For one, Qorvis was acquired by
MSLGROUP, so the excitement level was very high as the agency prepared to become a top-5
firm in Washington, D.C., through the acquisition. My supervisor was very helpful in
acclimating me to the agency environment. Moreover, Qorvis has a great team of people who
have worked all over and have a wealth of experience to share. Being thrust into an agency
environment while working with only one other intern has absolutely helped me to improve my
time management skills. As far as my goals and objectives go, Im not writing nearly as much
original material as Id like to, but I have been editing a good deal. I have been conducting a
great deal of research, which is definitely a great step toward my second goal.

Major Connection
One connection I tried to make throughout this part of my internship was with the Grunig models
of public relations. Because Qorvis is such a multifaceted agency, it was interesting to examine
its functions and match them up to the different models: press agentry/publicity, public
information, two-way asymmetric and two-way symmetric. Qorvis definitely entails several
functions that can fall under each of these. For example, pitching is an example of two-way
asymmetric, or persuasion. Assembling media kits is a function of public information, or the
dissemination of information, and so on.
