the production on cotton

products like clothes.

* The Louisiana Purchase was a
land deal between the United
States and France, in which
the U.S. acquired
approximately 827,000 square
miles of land west of the
Mississippi River for $15
million dollars.
* Significance: The U.S.
acquired more land. Thus,
more soil for crops and much
land space to move on to and

1814 in the Flemish city
of Ghent, was the peace
treaty that ended the
War of 1812 between the
United States of America
and the United Kingdom
of Great Britain and
Ireland.
*Significance: This treaty
restored relations
between two nations.

*The Missouri
Compromise, a bill
passed by Congress that
allowed Missouri to be a
slave state while
prohibiting slavery in the
rest of the Louisiana
purchase, and admitting
Maine as a free state to
keep the balance
between slavery and free
states in congress.





*Significance: Allowed to
gain a slave state and a
free state to maintain
the balance of slavery
and non-slavery states.

* The Indian Removal Act was a
law that was passed during the
presidency of Andrew Jackson
on May 28, 1830. The act
authorized him to negotiate
with the Native Americans in
the Southern United States for
their removal to federal
territory west of the Mississippi
River in exchange for their
homelands.
* Significance: The Natives
suffered so much that it was
given the name Trail of Tears.

*In 1845, the United States
of America annexed the
Republic of Texas and
admitted it to the Union
as the 28th state.
*Significance: The
Annexation of Texas was
opposed by many
northerners for fear of
adding another slave state
to the union, triggered the
Mexican war from 1846-
1848.

* The non-electric telegraph was
invented by Claude Chappe in
1794. This system was visual
and used semaphore, a flag-
based alphabet, and depended
on a line of sight for
communication. The optical
telegraph was replaced by the
electric telegraph, the focus of
this article.
* Significance: The telegraph
changed the way we
communicate and gave a big
advantage to the North during
the Civil War.

* The Pony Express was a mail
service delivering messages,
newspapers, mail, even small
packages from St. Joseph,
Missouri across the Great
Plains, over the Rocky
Mountains and the Sierra
Nevada to Sacramento,
California by horseback, using a
series of relay stations.
* Significance: It reduced the
time for messages to travel
between the Atlantic and
Pacific coasts to about 10 days.

*Significance: Finally the
start of a new era, where
everyone was starting to
have equal rights.
