ENGL 10 English Grade 10

THE NEXT GREAT BEAT POET WILL IT BE YOU?

Overview
After completing your poetry handout, song assignment, and creating 10 different
poetic works (a minimum of one from each genre we explored in class) choose the
poem you feel is your strongest and polish it. Find or create an accompanying image
that reflects the content, mood, or tone of the poem. If you would like this image
projected onto the smartboard while you perform your poem (oooooh backdrop!),
please email it to me no later that May 17
th
at kljacobson@cbe.ab.ca. You will be
performing your selected poem in front of the class in a beat poetry caf complete
with snap-clapping and fine cuisine

Process
1. Ensure you have completed your entire note package and your song assignment
2. Ensure you have produced a rough poem for each genre we explored plus an
additional two (thats 10 poems in total)
3. Determine which poem of yours you believe is most strong and edit and polish it
until it is of high quality (aka it shows you have put careful thought, consideration,
and effort into your work!)
4. Find or create an accompanying image pen, paint, mixed media, crayon
whatever you like. Again, make sure your choice reflects careful thought and
consideration. You may also choose to find an image online, but be prepared to
justify your choice.
5. Rehearse your selected poem.
6. Perform!

Product
Your final product should be a well-polished and thoughtful poem that you perform for the
rest of the class, accompanied by a carefully chosen image. Additionally, you will be asked
to hand in your poetry booklet, complete will 10 rough drafts of poems, and your song
assignment. Please hand in a typed or pen copy of your presented poem.

Evaluation
You will be individually evaluated, accordingly to the rubric below. Any questions, just ask!
