1.2. Safety Precautions
1. Before servicing, unplug the power cord to prevent electrical shock hazard.
2. When replacing parts, use only manufactures recommended components for safety.
3. Check the condition of power cord. Replace if wear or damage is evident.
4. After servicing, be sure to restore the wire dressing, insulation barriers, insulation papers, shields, etc.
5. Before returning the serviced equipment to the customer, perform the following electrical tests to prevent shock hazard.
1.3. For Service Technicians
ICs and LSIs are vulnerable to static electricity.
When repairing, the following precautions will help to prevent recurring malfunctions.
1. Cover the plastic parts with aluminum foil.
2. Ground the soldering irons.
3. Use a conductive mat on the worktable.
4. Do not grasp IC or LSI pins with bare fingers.
4
1.4. About Lead Free Solder (PbF: Pb free)
Note
In the information below, Pb, the symbol for lead in the periodic table of elements, will refer to standard solder or solder
that contains lead.
We will use PbF when discussing the lead free solder used in our manufacturing process which is made from Tin (Sn),
Silver (Ag), and Copper (Cu).
This model, and others like it, manufactured using lead free solder will have PbF stamped on the PCB. For service and
repair work we suggest using the same type of solder.
Distinction of PbF PCB
PCBs (manufactured) using lead free solder will have a PbF stamp on the PCB.
Caution
PbF solder has a melting point that is 50 - 70 F, (30 - 40 C) higher than Pb solder.
Please use a soldering iron with temperature control and adjust it to 700 20 F (370 10 C).
Exercise care while using higher temperature soldering irons.: Do not heat the PCB for too long time in order to
prevent solder splash or damage to the PCB.
PbF solder will tend to splash if it is heated much higher than its melting point, approximately 1100 F, (600 C).
When applying PbF solder to double layered boards, please check the component side for excess solder which may
flow onto the opposite side (See figure below).
1.4.1. Suggested Pb free solder
We recommend you to use the following solder when re-soldering components for repair. Before using other Pb free solder than the
following solder, make sure to confirm that the solder maker (you use) has the license agreement for Pb free solder.

6 MECHANICAL FUNCTION
6.1. Paper Feed Mechanism
Fig. 6.1
1. When the document is set on the Feed Tray, and its presence is detected by the Paper Sensor, the scanning command
from PC will allow the Conveyor Motor to be driven, which will rotate the Paper Feed Roller, Conveyor Roller, and Exit Roller
in the direction of the arrows.
2. When the document enters into the separation section inside the paper feed section, the Double-feed Prevention Roller
(supported by shaft fixed via a torque limiter) exerts a manipulation force onto the document, which depends on the
set torque.
In case of continuous paper feed, the 1st document is separated from the 2nd or more documents by this manipulation
force, and is fed to the scanning section.
3. When the leading edge of the document advances to the Conveyor Roller position, the document is conveyed at a faster
speed, that is 2.6 times as fast as the speed of the Paper Feed position.
4. When the leading edge of the document pushes down the Starting Sensors arm, the leading edge is detected, and
scanning the image will start after a certain interval.
5. When the trailing edge of the document passes through the separation section, the continuous rotation of the Paper Feed
Roller during a series of scanning, enables the following document to be conveyed.
(Different speed between the rotation of the Conveyor Roller and that of the Paper Feed Roller rotation makes up a distance
between the 1st document and the 2nd.)
6. Repeat the above steps 2 to 5.
7. When the Paper Sensor detects no document, and the Starting Sensor detects the trailing edge of the document, the
Conveyor Motor will stop rotating after a certain interval to end a series of scanning sequence.
Note:
When the scanners buffer becomes full, the scanner stops to prevent buffer overflow, while allowing the data
to be transferred to the PC continuously. When enough free buffer area is secured again, the scanner resumes
the scanning process.
16
6.2. Sensor Mechanism
6.2.1. Paper Sensor
The Paper Sensor turns ON, when the document is properly placed on the Feed Tray, pushing the arm up away from the
sensor.
6.2.2. Starting Sensor
The Starting Sensor turns ON when the document is fed to the scanning-start position, pushing the arm down away from
the sensor.
6.2.3. Door Detector
The Door Detector turns OFF when the ADF Door is closed, interrupting the detector with the claw.

11 CIRCUIT DIAGRAM
11.1. Block Diagram-1 (Image Processing)
On this system, the CPU (IC1016) controls the operation of USB Interface Controller, Gate Array (IC1007), Sensors' block
(Paper, Starting, Door), and Panel Block (LEDs, Switch).
(Paper Feeding)
The Gate Array (IC1007) controls Conveyor Motor operation by providing some motor-pulse signals to Motor Driver (IC1015)
for the paper feed scanning.
(Image Processing)
1. Both CCD (F) and CCD (B) are driven by the drive pulses (Transfer Gate pulse, Reset pulse, Clock, and Clamp Pulse of CCD)
output from the pulse generation circuit in the Gate Array (IC1007).
2. As the result of this, the image analog signals are output from the CCD(F) and the CCD(B).
3. The analog signals are respectively converted to digital signals by the AFE (IC1004, IC1005: Analog IC) that
operates as A/D converter.
4. And the converted digital signals are transmitted to the image processing IC (Gate Array: IC1007).
5. And according to the command from PC, the Gate Array (IC1007) performs image processing such as binary-coded
processing, pseudo-gradation processing (dithering, error diffusion processing), color drop-out processing, and so on
by using SDRAM that enables the intermediate data during the process to be stored temporarily.
6. After handling this, Gate Array stores the data into the SDRAM.

7. And controlled by DMAC circuit in the Gate Array, the processed data are transmitted from SDRAM to USB-C (IC1010) and
its surrounding circuits, and are output to the PC via USB interface.
