Tells us its Vishal Bhardwajs adaptation of Shakespeares Othello faded Shakespearean
background behind with black smoke/clouds floating.
Credits roll in same background, slow heavy music, setting the theme.
Starts with Saifs dialogue, theres a very thin thread between a bewakoof and a chutiya, and
if you break the thread, its a million dollar question as to whos the bewakoof and whos the
chutiya.- Bewakoof aur chutiye mein dhaage bhar ka farak hota haiga bhaiya ... dhage ke
ingay bewakoof aur ungay, chutiya ... aur jo dhaaga hainch lo, to kaun haiga bewakoof aur
kaun hai chutiya, karoad rupiye ka prasan hai bhaiya..
Saif shown village setting village gunda. Sends Rajan and his baraat back, Dolly belongs
to Omi bhaiya.
Next scene wedding. Dollys D fallen upside down. Kaha marr gayi baraat? someone
asks, Saif has already shooed them away.
Next scene, Langda bhaiya and his sidekick(Kesu) playing kanche. Use of abuses in every
phrase they use, typical UP Hindi dialect.
Background music Ajay enters.
Were told hes abducted the angry guys daughter but is unable to kill him for his
bhaisahaab has ordered them to stay calm. Cut scene tracking in from behind, theres
darkness. Naseeruddin Shah (Bhaisahaab) dialogue - Jab ghodi ke khoor mein naal tthuke, to
mhendki bhi paun tthaa (utthaa) leti hai bhaiyya.
Next scene entering jail, cut back to the angry lawyer and Bhaisahaab.Setting inside the jail,
he walks freely as if he owns it. Talks about Ajays jati and biradri mein naak katna.
Omkara hasnt abducted Dolly, shes come by her own free will, she loves him to death.
Flasbacks- song and Omkara and Dollys relationship.
Lawyer stops car in front of him dont forget a womans double nature, one who can betray
her own father cannot be truthful to any other man.
OMKARA films name on screen now.
Kichlu tries to ignite Omkara after he loses his face; fight ensues; Omkara track in the
background.
Sharat ghodo pe lagate hai, sheron pe nahi.
Washing face sun setting in the background.
Tradition being passed on thali exchanged from bhaisahaab to omkara to Kesu firangi.
Against the background score of Vedic chants, Omkara slowly passes Langda Tyaagi to pick
as his successor, leaving Tyaagi fuming and frothing at the eyes and greatly smiling at the
lips. No dialogues are exchanged, yet a lot is conveyed. Dances with them; scene cut breaks
mirror in anger, smears that blood across his forehead- enraged and seeking revenge.
Lighting : We observe the movie progresses into darker lighting now, conveying dark times
ahead, theres barely any light, barely any Good left.
Cut scene : Everyones chanting Omkaras name, hes going with Dolly, introducing to his
family shes not just another girl hell satisfy his appetite with, hell marry her.
Rajan enters, background music My heart is beating..
He had given wrong information to Saif that Omi will crown him Bahubali, now both are
allied against Omkara. Scene : sitting on the bridge, drunkenness leads to Rajan jumping,
Langda saves. Rajan keeps inciting Langda; he throws him back in the water.
Next scene : Golus birthday. Evil music in background, Langda has a plan.
Found out Kesu cant handle alcohol, planning begins, situational background music. Incited
him to drink; plan worked.
Item number beedi jalayi le.. jigad ma badi aag hai..
Jealousy, our movies theme.
Kesu starts hitting everyone around, too drunk to realize. Omkara tells him it was a mistake
to make him bahubali.
Kesu wants to mend things, Langda suggests going through Dolly for shes the only one
Omkara would listen to. Langdas plan is falling into place little by little. Langda is the
fulcrum for the whole movie and he is one who raises the bar of quality for many others
around him.
Dolly asks Kesu to teach her to sing for the favour shed do him. Omkara comes in time to
see Kesu flee, Langda plants the seeds of doubt in his mind. Instead, Dolly sings for him and
melts Omkara. Scene : love song, their fights and love.
Dolly asks Omkara to forgive Kesu, while on bed with him. He leaves, fuming but she
manages to coax him again. He agrees to do so on their wedding. Langda continues to fill
Omkaras mind with doubts, saying things about Kesu and Dollys relationship when they
were in college, making him doubt her fidelity.
Bhaisahaab is shot, Omkara assigns mission to all; Kesu is supposed to deliver his marriage
cards Kesu is frustrated, beats up a commoner.
Langda suggests Kesu do his mission, gives Omakras family kamarbandh that was with
Dolly(Langdas wife, Indu obtains it when Dolly and Omkara were running around) to Kesu,
to give it to Kesus item (Billo) for his mission.
Second item song Jaban pe laga re namak issq ka.. Location : Police station. All the
officers are drinking and dancing along. Very realistic.
Langda indirectly informs Omakra his family heirloom was around Billos waist. Omkara
comes home frustrated, taking his anger out on Dolly.
Everything is spinning, her love for him has been questioned.
Indu gives her advice : always keep your man hungry, wanting for more else hell only fill his
appetite and throw you away. Scene change, mehendi and haldi rituals, Omkara leaves
midway, old grandma says its bad omen.
They kill Indore Singh, Omkara asks Langda if theres something between Dolly and Kesu.
Omkara threatens him to get some proof before his marriage if he wants to stay alive when
Langda answers positive.
Rituals are on at Omkaras place when a vulture drops a dead snake in the bowl of haldi,
making it a bad omen. Dolly cries, tries to tell Indu her plight when Langda intervenes saying
hell talk to Omi bhaiya.
Indu then speaks with Omkara herself, their brother - sister like bond making him open up
he cannot trust Dolly anymore. One who can betray her own father cannot be truthful to any
other man, he repeats to her. She boldly and bitterly replies, even if we women walk through
fire, our purity will always be in question. A film that revolves centrally around the question
of a woman's fidelity, it's hard to escape reference to Sita's trials in the Ramayana.
Scene : Omis baraaat. Omkara reminds Langda to get an evidence.
Scene change : He applies sindoor and puts the mangalsutra around Dolly, a bamboo pole in
between them in the shot there is a looming distance between them, a pole of doubts and
mistrust lies there.
Langdas plan is finally successful, Billo leaves Kesu, he tries to explain things, Langda
shoots him. Omkara sees the kamarbandh, giving him the required evidence.
He goes home, informing her that her love is dead. Confused, shes happy to see the lost
heirloom, inquiring about that. He tells her theres no need for pretence, questioning her love,
her devotion to him, asking her if there was anything missing in his love. He then suffocates
her with a cushion, killing her effectively.
Indu rushes in to give him bad news when she realizes Dollys lifeless figure and notices the
heirloom. She tells Omkara she was the one who stole it.
Langda enters, tries to cover up when he realizes his wife has told Omkara. After a few
seconds, he stops, telling Omkara there is no difference in his truth and his lies. He asks him
to shoot him right in the head, to end it. Omkara doesnt, telling him he might physically
achieve freedom but neither he nor Omkara will ever get mentally free, that is, their spirit will
always hover around. Langda goes down to his house, door opens, Indu slashes him across
his throat with a sickle.
Cut scene : Omkaras lullaby for Dolly playing in the background as he lays next to her
lifeless body.
Kesu enters, Omkara tells him how hes killed everyone in past, to the head, on the chin and
next he shoots himself right in the heart, falling and dying. Dollys body lying above him on
the swing that keeps swinging, his body below her.
The jealous streak and the suspicion sown in Omkaras mind is the central focus of the movie
which leads to destruction and mayhem. Omkara's love for Dolly, Dolly's unquestioning love
for Omi, Langda's warped loyalty and jealousy for Omi, Kesu's unswerving devotion to Omi
-- all lead up to a dark tragedy where Omi finally realizes what he has done.
Everything fades to darkness -- End Credits.
From the word go, Omkara has you by the crotch and only lets go once the end credits have
rolled off! How the love for one woman can change the fate of several people around is both
interesting and disturbing. To quote a famous line, Men have both a brain and a penis, but
just enough blood to function one at a time. This quote defines the storyline perfectly. Yes,
Omkara is an adaptation of Othello, but that is not the strength of the movie. The real strength
of the movie lies in the performances of all the characters, and the gripping narrative. The
rustic and rough feel of the movie nicely captures the ambiance, making raw gorgeous! Never
for a moment things get too comfortable and I guess if you're surrounded by political mafias
there can never be a real sense of ease about anything. The movie leaves us with heavy
thoughts and a lot to ponder in the end.
