Dear Mr. Aerts,
I recently came across the Test Technician Internship opportunity that you are offering at Western
Diversified Plastics through Western Michigan Universitys career website and wish to extend my
interest in being considered as a candidate. I am currently a senior level mechanical engineering student
at WMU and have a great interest in the type of work that this position may involve. I also have
previous engineering internship experience at Pfizer Pharmaceuticals as well as 4 years of IT help desk
experience at WMUs College of Health & Human Services.
During my time in WMUs mechanical engineering program I have developed an in depth knowledge of
the engineering sciences as well as the technological proficiencies necessary to begin a career as an
engineer. As of the first summer semester I am finishing up the last few classes that are required to
enroll in my senior design project class starting in the fall. I was excited to see that one of the programs
that you mentioned in the job description directly relates to a course that I am currently attending,
Instrumentation, which directly involves the use of LabVIEW. I have thoroughly enjoyed learning this
program thus far and would be extremely excited for the opportunity to gain professional experience in
its use.
In my work experience at CHHS I have acquired an adept knowledge of computer information systems
including many different hardware and software suites. As an Intern at Pfizer I worked alongside both
chemists and other engineers to research and develop new analytical techniques for monitoring and
improving many of Pfizers pharmaceutical products. Multiple projects that I personally oversaw
involved the use of new technologies that Pfizer was experimenting with including one that incorporated
the use of a FLIR thermal camera system to analyze the homogeneity of in process chemical product
within a sterile, atmospherically controlled environment. Given the opportunity, I would very much
enjoy the chance to use my skills to contribute towards projects of similar scope once again.
