Postdoctoral Research Assistant Fellowship in NT Textual History
Fellowship for a Research Assistant at the Institute for New Testament Textual
Research in Mnster, Germany
The American Bible Society and the German Bible Society are awarding a post-doc
research assistant at the Institute for New Testament Textual Research in Mnster,
Germany. The fellowship covers a period of 36 months, a xed three-year
appointment, beginning 1 July 2014.
The Institute for New Testament Textual Research
The central task of the Institute for New Testament Textual Research (Institut fr
Neutestamentliche Textforschung, INTF) is to research the textual history of the
New Testament and to edit its text on the basis of the manuscript tradition, the
early translations, and patristic citations. Foremost among the editions is the Editio
Critica Maior Novum Testamentum Graecum (ECM), now in preparation. The
scholarly outcome of the INTFs work is also made available to the broad
community of commentators, philologists, translators, and students in three
printed concise editions: the Nestle-Aland Novum Testamentum Graece (NA), the
Greek New Testament (GNT, also known as the UBS edition), and the Synopsis
Quattuor Evangeliorum (Syn). Moreover, digital production is becoming
increasingly important to our work, as is evident by the New Testament Virtual
Manuscript Room (NT.VMR) and NTTranscripts.
Tasks and Responsibilities
Transcribing Manuscripts and Reconciling Multiple Transcriptions
Constructing the Critical Apparatus for NTTranscripts
Indexing Manuscript Images for NT.VMR
Participating with the Editorial Committee in Preparing the GNT6 and the NA29,
including Redesigning the Apparatuses
Requirements
Advanced Knowledge of Greek and Latin, basic knowledge of Greek
palaeography, ability to comprehend a complex critical apparatus, and knowledge
of the principles of New Testament textual criticism.
Ph.D. in New Testament studies, focusing on or including text-criticism.
Reading knowledge of German is required, with an aptitude to acquire
conversational usage. INTF sta speak English, but internal discussion is often
conducted in German.

Search. Three current letters of recommendation should be sent to the same email
address, directly from those serving as references. Completed applications must be
received by 15 February 2014. Interviews begin in late March at the Luce Center
in Atlanta. Review of applications will continue until the position is lled.
Employment Details
The research assistant will be employed by the German Bible Society, which is the
publisher of the text editions of the INTF, and will work under the supervision of the
INTFs director, Holger Strutwolf. The salary will be commensurate with experience
and will be suitable for relocation to Germany.
