in their homes. Developed a curriculum for a social skills group for developmentally
delayed adolescent males living in institutional homes on the campus of Nevada Mental
Health Sierra Regional Center.

Human Language and Memory Laboratory: Study of low-level human memory components
including false memories, speech processing, bilingual development, encoding and their
neurocognitive correlates.Current research interests include developmental aspects of
language especially in Spanish-English bilinguals with emphasis on second language

University of Nevada, Reno Graduate Students Association Research and Technology Grant,
Spring 2004, $2300. This grant is awarded to individual graduate students for the purchase of
technical supplies to be used in their research.

United States State Department grant for the International Visitors Council of Northern Nevada
1998, $27,000 awarded to the IVCNN. The IVCNN is partner of the nationwide International
Visitors Council and is partially funded by the US State department, partially by private
donations, to educate international leaders, from developing and developed countries, and expose
them to US practices in specialized fields including healthcare, education, engineering, law,
tourism and other areas related to civil endeavors.

Supervising pre-fair research proposal evaluations from students. Judging student fair
submissions. 2006-Present.

Promising Pathways Best Practices in Autism Conference co-founder and organizing committee
member. A conference for physicians, parents and educators addressing autism spectrum disorders
where national and local experts in the research and study of autism addressed topics including
the causes of autism, evaluation and treatment, early identification and intervention, treatments for
behaviors associated with autism, arrangement of long-term finance for persons with disabilities,
sexuality and more. April 2008. Next planned for April 2009.

Assessment of teaching techniques in Social Science and Physical Science courses.

Bilingual language development in native Spanish speaking children. Assessment of various


ESL teaching techniques as well as bilingual lexical organization in balanced Spanish/English
bilinguals.

Coping mechanisms used by older adults; development of education-focused programs for low-
income older adults and techniques of implementing and assessing successful aging programs
including maintenance of cognitive skills (focus on memory).
