Congratulations Area 1 Teachers of the Year!!
Mr. Vance currently teaches Algebra I and eighth grade
math at Austin Academy. He has been a great asset to
educating our students and has served 13 years in edu-
cation (all at AAE). Chris holds a Bachelor of Science
Degree in Math Education from Southeastern Oklaho-
ma State University.
Lisa Johnson is Bussey Middle School's Teacher of the
Year for 2013-2014. Lisa currently teaches 7th grade
reading and is our AVID elective teacher and coordi-
nator. This is her tenth year in education. She was cho-
sen as teacher of the year not only for her excellent and
creative implementation of instruction but for her abil-
ity to build relationships with all students!
Mrs. Perez is absolutely one of the best first grade
teachers we have ever seen! Imagine four months
straight with 100% of her class on Tier I. We are so
pleased to honor her work and dedication to her stu-
dents at Freeman.

Golden Meadows E.S.
Karla Beltran is our 5th grade self-contained bilingual
Teacher at Golden Meadows. Her biggest strength is
that she has a drive to make sure that all her students
achieve success in her classroom.

Garland H.S.
Jeanne Herbert is the ESL department lead teacher
and case manager at Garland High School. She in-
spires the students that she works with daily. Ms. Her-
bert has enjoyed teaching ELL English I and ELL
Practical Writing at GHS for fifteen years.
Yolanda Velazquez
Walnut Glen Academy
Congratulations Area 1 Teachers of the Year!!
Mrs. Velazquez has been a bilingual teacher for the past
five years at Walnut Glen. She has a very student-
centered approach and always differentiates her lessons
and instructions to meet the individual needs of her stu-
dents. She always keeps a positive, how can I help atti-
tude, which contributes to our overall school success in
so many ways.

Debbie Shafer
Park Crest E.S.
Debbie Schafer is the ABC teacher at Park Crest. She
is an incredible teacher and leader. At any given time
she ensures that all of her students are engaged and
challenged. She gets our stage ready for programs,
runs our PTA concessions, decorates our display in the
front of the building, serves on committees, etc. We
would be lost without her!
Rachel Littrell is a kindergarten teacher at Kimberlin
Academy for Excellence. Rachel is an extraordinary
teacher who reaches into the hearts and minds of our
students by implementing engaging and interesting les-
sons that make her students focus on learning. Kimber-
lin couldn't be more excited to have Rachel as our
Teacher of the Year.
This is Erins Pachecos fourth year teaching 4
th
grade at
Williams, and, prior to this, she taught 3
rd
grade in Aldine
ISD. She has a B.A. in Elementary Education from Upper
Iowa University. She serves our campus as a student teacher
supervisor and TNT mentor for new teachers. Erin also
serves on the P.T.A. board as chairperson. She is a master
teacher and valued member of our staff.

Mrs. Gray is dedicated to helping ALL students learn.
All students need to be nurtured and taught in Mrs.
Grays eyes. She is a 1st grade teacher that welcomes
and includes ALL students regardless of their ability
levels and challenges.
