March 10, 2014 [BRIEFING NOTES]

Blue WEEK

To all staff who planned events for world
book day last Thursday.
Thankyou to all staff who dressed up as
fictional Characters for World Book day -
well done to Mrs Bowmer who won the
Champagne and chocolates.
To Mr Hirst for coordinating th fabulous
Thomas harding author visit to kick off
our reading week.
To Mrs Brosed, Mrs Thakar and Mr
Grant for leading the EAL group visit to
Quarry Bank Mill.
To Stephen, team and Y7/8 for
completing the awesome sensory wall.
To the catering team for their help with
the catering audit last week.
To the vocational school and PVo for
arranging the careers event visit last
week.
To Andy and Helen for undertaking th
Macbeth Filming visit.
To Katie and Dave for taking students to
the creative writing workshop at
Manchester University.
To staff for completing the curriculum
questionnaire.
The randomly selected winner for
completing the quesitonnaire in the time
slot and winner of the champagne or
chocolates is:
Shelley

1/ Katie asking challenging questions with her
year 7 class and as a result the students
deepened their understanding of poetry and how
language is used to engage the reader.
2/ Reena teaching year 9 class: as assessment
was diagnostic and extremely constructive,
students were able to make rapid gains in their
learning.
3/ Amy Gregory is a new starter at Stretford High
School who joined us in Feb of Y11. In order to
accommodate her completion of a different
specification in Geography Adam has devised a
project to allow her to access this course. Amy is
working on her own website using Weebly This
imaginative strategy ensures that Amy's
individual needs are being met as a high
achieving student who is moving at a difficult time
of year.
4/ Mezs constructive marking is an excellent
example of stretching and challenging pupils
consistently; particularly engaging pupils in
developing a progress led dialogue with their
subject teacher. This demonstrated consistently
high quality marking and constructive feedback
from teacher to ensure that pupils make rapid
gains.

The Key Message...
The Key Message is feedback and feedforward in March...
The mission for Teaching and intervention is Good or better 6/6, 30/30, 38/38.
Is your feedback creating a regular learning dialogue to accelerate progress or is your feedback having little
effect?
Effective feedback shows students how to move forward and demonstrates that what they do in your
classes means something; it shows respect, support and makes students feel part of something.
Feedback on learning is a consistent, regular and clear exchange about specific skills, knowledge,
understanding and behaviours and is the most effective teaching strategy.
Are your STRS and EBIs linked to progress or superlatives with students?
If you are leading or appraising staff this month, is your feedback framed correctly and linked to
evidence does your feedback positively impact upon behaviours? How do you know?

Leadership team messages
Teaching and Intervention
1/ Iris connect - have you booked your slot?
2/ NQT review fortnight Pls can DOAS support
NQTS with their review and development
evidence.
Lead & Manage
1/ Please can DOAs and DOPS ensure that all staff are
clear/reminded on how to use the restorative practice
approach. If our RP approach is used effectively it
features a sanction or sanctions set by the person
wronged by the behaviour choice. RP is only effective
where an agreed and appropriate sanction is set and
followed up by the member of staff in question at the
appropriate time in the process. No one will do this for a
member of staff. Staff should be supported by a line
manager if required.
Behaviour & safety
1/Pls only use Patrol to support intervention.
Please do not call patrol and demand for
students to be removed from classes or send
children outside. These actions do not feature in
our behaviour system and exacerbate situations.
2/ Att up again this week to 94.9 meaning 95%
overall since sept keep up the good work.

Attainment & Progress
1/ Assessment cycle 3 data entry starts on 17
th
March
next Monday. Have assessments been agreed and
standardised in your academic school? Will students get a
dry assessment run and re-teach week before final data
entry?
