Natural Gas Options for a Harbor Tug -

SNAME-022-2013
August 1, 2013
Description
The paper discusses Natural gas options as CNG, LNG & ANG for ships. Steps of Natural Gas
requirement calculations for a 60 Ton pull Harbor Tug tted with Natural Gas Engines, using a load
prole is shown. The evaluation is made for a propeller curve engine and for a constant RPM engine.
Similar evaluations are made for the Harbor Tug tted with equivalent Diesel Engines. Emissions and
Fuel price comparisons are then made between Diesel and Natural Gas fuels. A concept of EEDI is
suggested to cover Tugs, Trawlers and similar vessels.
