Session Highlights
May 12, 2014
The following motions were approved by Session from the
following Committees:
From Worship and Discipleship:
To approve the baptism of Piper Cristine Wentling,
daughter of Brandon and Candice Wentling, born January 27,
2014 at Wet Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. The date is to
be determined.
From Stewardship and Mission Support:
1. That the Pentecost Offering be divided, 40% to Dunbar
Center and 60% to Presbyterian Church U.S.A.
2. Transfer all remaining money in account 350.212 MM
Hazelet Estate Fund, after the Brady Street steps are
repaired to account 310.151 New Covenant Funds
Emergency Repair Fund. This will allow us to close a
special checking account set up specifically for this
money.
From Administration:
Concrete work - that the committee be authorized to
purchase and have installed new powder-coated aluminum
railings for the stairs (estimated cost $3,000), a new lamp
fixture, and any necessary landscaping to restore the area
beside the new stairs. Gutter repair - that the church enter
into a contract with Standard Insulating to perform gutter
work for a cost of $20,100.
Clark Sawyer
Moderator
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Members and Friends of the Hill
United Presbyterian Church:

It may be that once upon a time you heard the
phrase Once saved, always saved! This speaks
about the eternal security and safety of the
believer in Jesus Christ.

While I believe this I also think that sometimes
it is used too flippantly.

I want to suggest five factors that can
encourage us to be eternally secure in Jesus
Christ.

1. The atonement on the cross that Christ Jesus
died once for all time and for all people to
completely pay for our sins.

The iniquity of us all was laid upon Him.

2. The nature of sin is so rampant in our lives that
no one can say I have not sinned in thought,
word or deed today.

It is only in Jesus that by His stripes we are
made whole.

3. The nature of the experience of salvation tells
us that we are, by Gods grace, drawn to Jesus
who is the way, the truth and the life, no one
coming to the Father except through Him.

4. Once we come to salvation in Jesus, the
ministry of the Holy Spirit comes to live and
abide in us always so as to be our Guide, our
Teacher and our Helper. The Holy Spirit helps
us grow in the Fruit and Gifts of the Spirit.

5. Finally, Johns Gospel tells us that Jesus is our
Intercessor and Advocate praying for us and
advocating in us.

Please thank God for Gods provision for our
eternal security and safety in Jesus Christ, telling
other people about your eternal security as well!

GHANA MISSION TASK FORCE REPORT

Notice the accompanying page with the list of 40 Ghanaian students.
We request that you put this page in a prominent place in your home to
remind you to pray for our students and to consider a financial gift to the
scholarship fund.

One of the recent scholarship beneficiaries sent the following e-mail information dated
March 20, 2014. She is affiliated with the Bubiashie congregation.
Emelia Opare, born May 8
th
, 1998, attends Mawuli Senior High School at Ho in the Volta Region and hopes
to eventually have a career in journalism. She was an abandoned child and wishes to become a benefactor to
many neglected and less privileged children and to also become a child activist in the future. Emelia has one sister
and lives with her grandfather, Joseph, the Bubiashie Catechist. She thanks us for our continuous sponsorship
to help her achieve her ambition. Her e-mail is:: opareemelia@gmail.com.

The following two students are from the Odorkor church and are twins and describe
themselves.

is at Level 100 at the University of Ghana in Business Administration. There are 700 students in her class.
Rosemary likes writing stories and poems. She is a member of the tourism club. She lives at home with her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Obour, in Anyaa a suburb of Accra. Her family consists of eight; five girls and a boy
and her parents; her dad being a retired banker and her mom a trader. The oldest sibling is a police officer and
the rest are in school.

well as reading. There are more than 400 students in her class. She and her sister commute from home and
Rosemond says that the courses take most of her time. Rosemond and Rosemary are the third born children in
the family.

Please keep the Bubiashie District churches, Bernard Daddy, chairperson of the Bubiashie
Scholarship Committee, as well as the students in your prayers.

PER CAPITA

Per Capita (about that blue envelope in
your box of weekly offering envelopes).
In case you are wondering what the blue
envelope near the beginning of your 2014
offering envelope box is for, you are not
the only one. Per Capita is the
assessment each congregation pays for each church member
recorded on their membership rolls. It is assessed by our
denomination (Presbyterian Church, U.S.A.) to cover the
required administrative expenses to operate the Presbytery,
Synod and General Assembly offices of each judicatory.
These expenses are $34.22 per member for 2014. Since the
Per Capita is included in calculating our operating budget,
not everyone contributes extra to this source. Others prefer
to do so in order to help ease a little of the financial burden
that this places upon the church budget. A little extra
giving does make a difference when our congregations total
Per Capita assessment is $12,114.00. Even if you are not
led to give the entire $34.22, any amount toward the Per
Capita would be appreciated. Thank you to those who
choose to help.

As of 5/16/14, we have received $4,009.46 toward the
$12,114.00 total Per Capita.

Blessings In Christ,
The Stewardship and Mission Support Committee
PENTECOST OFFERING

The Pentecost Offering will be
received the last two weekends
of May and the first two
weekends of June culminating with the celebration of
Pentecost on June 8, 2014.

The offering is for four areas of ministry:

40% of the offering is kept by our local Church for
use on behalf of children at risk.

10% of the offering will support General Assembly
Child Advocacy ministries.

25% of the offering supports General Assembly
ministries with youth.

25% supports young adult volunteer opportunities to
serve Jesus Christ in the United States and overseas.

As God leads you, please consider giving to the
Pentecost offering. Our goal for this year is $800.00.

Across
2. David asks God to do this to know
his thoughts and desires and
challenge him.
4. God is light, so if you hid in this
God can still find you.
6. David gets upset when he thinks
about these people.
9. David wrote his thoughts as a way
to God for all Hes done.
10. This is the book in the Bible where
Davids songs/poems are kept.

Down
1. God has more of these than all the
grains of sand.
3. God knew you from the very
way before you were born.
5. We cant get away from God. He is
with us!
7. God was involved in every
of who you are inside and out.
8. You were planned and made by
God who made you and
unique.
