DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF A QUALITY ENGINEER

The Quality Engineers responsibilities include:


Application of Quality to a product or service in a systematic approach.
Participate in the development and review of project documentation.
Direction and support for procurement activities.
Application of testing and inspection activities to a system or service.
Assessment of systems to identify deficiencies and participate in resolution of issues found.
Typical duties include:
Assist management in development and implementation of quality program plan(s) and
subsequent reviews.
Assist in defining/developing quality status indicators, performance measurements and
reporting requirements.
Review and comment on drawings, calculations, specifications and other design
inputs/outputs.
Provide direction in developing inspection plans, First Article Inspection, In-Process and
Final Product Inspection, Sampling Plans, inspection and acceptance criteria and Design
Validation Testing.
Perform internal audits to assess compliance to Standards and to the internal Quality System,
including investigation, presentation of observations and findings, and reporting.
Assist in maintaining rule\order and compliance of quality plans.
Review and document any change in rule\order for projects.
Perform product and process evaluation and identify areas for improvement, recommend
solution to identified problem and implement approved changes using sound quality
principles and fully document requirements.
Investigate product quality problems, determine root cause, gather and analyze data and
implement corrective action to reduce or eliminate cause.
Assist with enquiries into site failure of equipment inspected and accepted by the unit, write
or coordinate the preparation of reports on the investigation.
Perform special studies and field research as required.
Monitor training/certification activities of Project personnel.
Use quality tools and an approved criteria to ensure the identification of quality failures in
internal and external manufactured parts and assemblies.
Provide quality assurance inspection for equipment repaired, and review detailed work plans
and schedules for repair work, to determine inspection methods and equipment required.
Provide technical advice on methods of repair, utilization of equipment, and new
techniques/equipment available.
Maintain unit records and reference files such as test equipment/tool inventory and loan
records, calibration of test equipment records, repair record system and a technical reference
library.
Validate return to service activities after replace or repair of equipment/tools.
Perform process capability studies or special studies necessary to increase quality and lower
total quality costs.
