Module 1: Introduction to GIS (ESRI or Open Source Software) One session


Participants
- Understand the different parts of Software
- Can open software on their computers
- Manage to open vector files and change their appearance
- Can load and enable plugins
- Have the general understanding of ESRI and other commercial platforms

Module 2: Data formats One session
Participants
- Understand the vector data formats (shape files)
- Understand the raster formats (resolution, header, file size related to resolution)
- Advantages and disadvantages of vector and raster data

Module 3: Data Source One session
Participants
- Are able to find GIS data on internet
- Basic steps for data standardization and cleaning
- Understand meta data

Module 4: Coordinate system and Projection system One session
Participants
- Understand different coordinate system
- Understand when to work with projected data
- Are able to handle projection problems

Module 5: Create GIS Data from topographic sheets One session
Participants
- Geo-reference topographic sheets and scanned maps
- Add coordinate systems and projections
- Digitize contours, water bodies, etc. from the maps
- Create layers of Administrative Boundaries

Module 6: Working with tabular data One session
Participants
- Convert tabular data with coordinates into shape files
- Link tabular data with GIS

Module 7: Create Land Use/Land Cover Maps and Digital Maps, Use KML Files One session
Participants
- Can carry out land use mapping from satellite images
- Digitize land use maps from Town/Country Planning Data
- Create digital maps
- Convert files to KML and visualize on Google Earth



PART B: GEODESY, MODERN SURVEYING & DATA COLLECTION

Module 1: Introduction to Land Surveying One session
Participants
- Understand surveying & geodesy
- Understand types of survey and data collection processes
- Understand corrections in surveying
- Optical vs. GNSS based surveying

Module 2: Modern Surveying Techniques: GNSS
Participants
- Understand the basic concepts of GPS, DGPS & GNSS technology
- Understand Satellite Geodesy
- Data collection using DGPS/GNSS systems
- Types of GNSS Surveys: Precision Surveys, PPK, RTK, Mobile Mapping


Module 3: Data Processing & Differential Corrections: Precision Surveys
Participants
- Understand the concepts of base stations and rovers
- Understand commercial file formats and Rinex format
- Can carry out differential corrections
- Post-processing vs. RTK Surveys
- Processing points, baselines and carrying out network adjustments using commercial
software

Module 4: Data Processing & Differential Corrections: Mobile Mapping
Participants
- Understand how to create data dictionary files
- Understand mobile mapping in the field and collecting GIS-ready data
- Post-processing of mapped data
- Creating shapefiles for ready use in GIS
