Justice and Wealth Revision
06/04/14
Justice is commonly known as righteous consequence doled out as necessary. In
contrast, wealth is the ownership of large sums of money. While many will erroneously declare
that the two abstractions have no correlation, in reality the rich are inevitably given the influence
to determine right from wrong, for prosperity is synonymous with power.
Although some may claim that not all those in power are wealthy, evidence proves that
those in control of justice are indeed quite prosperous. In this great nation, the rule of law states
that no one individual is above the Constitution; therefore, if the president or a homeless man
were to commit a heinous crime, both would be arrested and thrown in jail. The belief is that a
criminal, regardless of his/her origins, would serve their time to assure justice is served.
Theoretically, this structure should appease all and function flawlessly, but there will always be
those exceptional people who cheat the system. In modern times, pop star Justin Bieber was
arrested and charged with a DUI; however, due to his high-paying occupation, he was able to
pay bail and did not have to serve his time in prison. Evidently, justice was not served because
an unforgivable act was forgiven and America was angered.
While many argue that one can become successful without money, the truth is in these
times there are certain goals unreachable to the poor for their lack of wealth, for opportunity is
often denied to those society shames. There are those few impoverish people who rise above
the rest and outshine all others, such as the infamous Mother Theresa who renounced all her
possessions and devoted her life to the well-being of others. Many would argue such an
existence was successful in a sense, for she certainly achieved a level of enlightenment
humans strive for. However, true success is defined by corporate jobs, government positions,
levels of power over others and today one cannot obtain such accomplishments without
possessing money. Regard presidential elections; today, candidates must afford the high prices
of campaigning and must initially possess a level of wealth in order to be recognized in their
respective conventions. The prevailing leader of a proud nation cannot come from poverty that
would simply be shameful in this society. Evidently, great influence can only be held if one has
riches in their bank account.
If justice was entirely unrelated to wealth, the world would have a smaller gap between
rich and poor. The less fortunate populations would be given equal opportunities to rise up and
money would not sway people so easily.
