Morality is a very delicate subject, and every individual has a
different set of values and morals that control the way they live their lives. Morality is a set of beliefs that tell us what is right and what is wrong, thus influencing the decisions we make in life. But they vary depending on several factors such as culture, environment, social and financial situation, upbringing and even from person to person. What some people might consider acceptable is completely horrifying in the eyes of others.
Morals may come from various sources, such as religious beliefs, or simply an accepted value of a determined culture or group of people. An example of a religious belief that is used as a modern set of values that are adopted by most of the world is the Ten Commandments. Even though not the whole world is Christian, almost the whole world believes in at least one of the Commandments. It could be either Honor thy father and thy mother or Thou shalt not commit adultery or even Thou shalt not kill but the fact is that you cant find many places that dont accept at least one of the Ten Commandments in their set of values. But just because one culture or society accepts a set of morals, it doesnt mean every single person will agree with it, or follow it. Every person is different and has a different sense of right and wrong. That difference was the basis for the creation of a set of laws. Laws are basically a way of ensuring that the population of a determined region will follow the set of morals and values established and accepted by that community so that life can be safer and more agreeable for the population. Morality is the herd-instinct in the individual. Friedrich Nietzsche Many people have also seen morality as a bad thing over the years. Because it is based on feeling and belief, morality has been accused of mainly the same argument as religion: that it is not in touch in with reality, and therefore has no place in it. Thinkers such as Socrates and Nietzsche criticized morality because of it: In Christianity neither morality nor religion come into contact with reality at any point. Friedrich Nietzsche
A system of morality, which is based on relative emotional values, is a mere illusion, a thoroughly vulgar conception which has nothing sound in it and nothing true. Socrates
Morality is however, present in our lives, and doesnt only help us in the making of life-changing decisions, but also in the everyday life, and influences the way we interact with other people, and our view of ourselves. A man does what he must - in spite of personal consequences, in spite of obstacles and dangers and pressures - and that is the basis of all human morality. Winston Churchill
This is just a very brief overview, since morality is such a lengthy and delicate subject that has many other debates and faces.
