Family is two or more people united by the bonds of togetherness and emotional bond and who
identify themselves as part of the family ( Friedman , 1998) .
According to Duval , 1997 ( in Supartini , 2004) suggests that the family is a group of people
who are connected by marriage , adoption , and birth that aims to create and maintain a common
culture , improve their physical, mental , emotional, social and every member .

According to Murray and Zentner (1997 ) in Achjar ( 2010: 2 ) family is a social system that
contains two or more people living together who have a blood relationship , marriage or

mutual understanding , and love each other.

of two or more individuals who are members by blood , marriage relationship / appointment and
they live in a household , interacting with each other , and in their respective roles , creating and
maintaining culture.
