ABOUT THE SHELL RECRUITMENT DAY
A career with Shell is not your average day job it is your chance to join a company that tackles real world
problems, such as how we will meet the worlds growing energy demands.

As one of the routes into Shell, our Recruitment Days give us a chance to see you in action, assessing you in a
variety of different exercises and assessing how well you demonstrate the skills and attributes were looking for.
The day gives you the opportunity to show us your potential and will also help you decide if Shell is the right
company for you.

An overview:
The business language is English during the Shell Recruitment Day.
All exercises are fictitious but based on real issues / contexts which Shell faces.
You will need to read all of the instructions carefully.
You should base your answers only on the information provided as we are not testing your existing
knowledge.
For many exercises there are no right or wrong answers.
Please wear your provided name badge all day.
You will be provided with verbal feedback after the decision has been communicated we will highlight
some strengths and areas for development we have identified (where applicable).
PRE-SHELL RECRUITMENT DAY INTERACTIVE EVENT
Prior to the Shell Recruitment Day youll attend an informal event where youll receive further insight into Shells
business operations.

This event has been organised for us to get to know each other better. It is also an opportunity for you to
understand more about Shell and meet the other candidates, in preparation for the SRD on the following day.
Please note that during this time you will not be assessed. The event includes a briefing session about the next day.
You will also have the opportunity to meet some of our Shell graduates who will be happy to answer any questions
you might have.

Your attendance at this event is compulsory.
THE SHELL RECRUITMENT DAY
During the SRD, you will participate in a range of activities based on realistic business scenarios. We will assess
your capacity, achievement and relationship skills to determine whether you have the skills and competencies to be
successful within Shell. The activities will include an online exercise, a written exercise, a self-reflection interview, a
group discussion, a case study analysis and a final interview.

Its a two-way process, because its also your opportunity to find out about Shell and see if we are a good fit for
your career aspirations and ambitions.

If you are successful at the SRD, we will review our available job openings and determine whether we will be able
to make you a formal offer of employment. You will then be advised of our decision by your Recruiter, Farah
Bayley.

A walk through the Shell Recruitment Day
The SRD comprises of the following exercises:
1) An electronic E-tray exercise with two tasks to complete: an online exercise and a written task;
2) self reflection interview;
3) group exercise;
4) case study analysis; and
5) a final interview.

The exercises are based around the types of problems and challenges typically tackled by graduates within Shell.
By using a variety of different exercises, we will give you numerous opportunities to demonstrate your personal
strengths, and skills and abilities in relation to the criteria of Capacity, Achievement and Relationships. No
preparation is required for these exercises, however you may find it beneficial to complete the practise E-tray
exercise (see Appendix 3) as it will help you understand the interface and functionality on the day, and to also
review the Shell C.A.R. selection criteria on our website.

For the SRD itself, you may wish to bring along reading / study material in case of any waiting time in between
exercises.

We hope that you find the SRD a valuable, rewarding and ultimately enjoyable experience. Joining Shell means
getting more out of your working life than you thought possible.

Please note: You will need to speak conversational English to take part in the SRD, but your use of English is not
one of the selection criteria. If you are not a native English speaker, you will be given some additional time to
prepare where appropriate and are welcome to bring a dictionary.
