Last year, I hesitated on joining AP Language and Composition my junior year. I am
really pleased to know I made the decision of partaking in this class because I can honestly say it
has been beneficial. Before, I knew how to write moderately, but had trouble with making it
effective and absolutely great. As of right now, I do not believe I am the absolute best but I feel
like I have exceeded and grown in that area. Since this is a college course class, I have learned
different strategies, which all have helped me feel more ready for college. I have recently learned
different forms of writing and the different appeals to persuading a reader. I have acquired the
knowledge of writing a rhetorical essay, a synthesis essay and an argumentative essay. A
rhetorical essay is written accordingly due to an aim. It can be written in order to appeal to
emotion, logic, and or ethics; all which help convince the reader of something. A synthesis essay
is constructed in order to include your own opinion and the evidence for it as well. For this essay,
we are provided with multiple sources and then are instructed to use the best quotations and
information in order to support our thesis (our argument.) Lastly, the argumentative essay
consists of evidence from the reading, my own observations, and experiences in order to support
my own perspective. Recently, I was given a benchmark test I felt greatly prepared for. The
strategies I assimilated from the argumentative essay helped a lot. I felt at ease knowing what I
needed to include and what steps were essential. These essays have helped me better prepare for
not only the AP test at the end of the school year, but helped me prepare for the papers I will
have to write throughout my college years as well.
This past semester, I was given the task of being a restaurant critic, through a project
known as the Fast Food Industry Project. I did not go into the depth as an actual critic would, but
I did have to investigate certain regulations and conditions. Some regulations included the
cleanliness of the restaurant, the preparation of the food, the restaurant grade, etc. As a group, we

were supposed to decide on a specific restaurant to inspect. The restaurant my group and I
decided to research and judge was Wing Stop, located on Paxton. As we observed the restaurant,
we found that the facility was following the required regulations and was being kept clean for the
customers. After having done this, my group and I constructed a Prezi (Slide Show) to present
our findings to the rest of the student body. We presented things such as the way the food tasted,
our recommendations, sanitation, and the negative and positive aspects of the place. Other
groups investigated other fast food restaurants like McDonalds or In N Out and presented their
findings as well. This project helped me investigate the world, having researched much about the
fast food industry all around the world and the mutual regulations throughout restaurants as well
as investigating a fast food restaurant first hand. Before, I did not know much other than simple
regulations, stories, and myths about certain restaurants. Now, I feel as if I know enough about
regulations and conditions a restaurant has to follow and the fast food industry overall. I can now
say that I hold different opinions about certain fast food places and will do my very best to
advise others for their own benefit.
