Malta

Malta has one University and two High level

education schools. The semester is from
September to July and Malta uses the
European Credit Transfer System which
makes it really easy to take the study points
you got from Malta towards the Netherlands
or any other country with this system. The
only real difference between the Dutch system
and the Maltese is that in Malta they don't use
bachelor or master but 1
st
, 2
nd
and 3
rd
degree.
This is not a problem when you decide to
continue your education in The Netherlands.

One of the easiest things about studying in Malta is that the official language in Malta is English. So if
you go studying in Malta most people won't need to learn a new language. The lessons on the
University are also given in English. Before you are allowed to study in Malta you will need to pass a
test on your knowledge on the English language.

You can go towards Malta without a visa because you only need a visa when you study there for more
than 3 months. So you can just start your study and when you are in Malta arrange your visa which is
really easy because you already lived in Europe.

The university itself is situated in the capitol Valletta. Close to the national sport park and the harbour.
It is partly situated in an old renovated building. It is ranked 1046 on the world ranking of universities.
An advantage of the university is that Malta is a small country so there is only one university because
of this the university has a lot of studies, a disadvantage is that if this university doesn't have the study
whole Malta doesn't.

A room to live in Malta is also quite easy because the University of Malta offers rooms with internet on
the campus. You can arrange a room by using the website of the university.

THE ROOMS
The standard costs for attending the University are 240-640 euro's depending which study you will be
attending. Other cost are:

Accommodation: 315
Meals: 280
Telephone: 47
Public transport: 35 (it is not free as in the Netherlands)
Books: 70
Free activities: 163
Clothes: 25
Total: 935
These costs are averages of this years students. To get into Malta you can best use the Airplane, for a
full journey, so two flights, you pay 330. To compare on average in the Netherlands for these services
and expenses you would pay 1105.

The university of Malta doesn't help with the financing of your study, but it is possible to keep the
Dutch system. If you want this you will have to follow certain rules.

So to conclude it is smart and easy to go and study in Malta because:
1. It is easy to switch university from Malta to the Netherlands and back
2. Official language is English
3. Easy to get a visa
4. The living costs and University costs are cheaper as in the Netherlands

Disadvantages are:
1. No scholarships
2. Not all studies in the Country
