Having a BSc (Hons) in
Complementary Therapies gives
you the best qualifications to be an
amazing therapist. I graduated in 2010 and
have gone on to own a business with 6
treatment rooms and employing 7 staff all by the
age of 25! I have also won 4 awards fromNational
Young Entrepreneur 2013 to Dorset New
Business of the Year 2013. Without the help and
support and knowledge I gained at University
I wouldn't be where I amtoday!

I was already a qualified therapist,
working in a clinical cancer care setting
when I enrolled on the degree to
further my knowledge.
As part of the final year dissertation
I conducted a small piece of research
into Reflexology Lymph Drainage
(RLD) and that management of
secondary lymphoedema in patients
affected by treatment for breast cancer.
In partnership with the university we
have received funding from to conduct
further clinical research into RLD.
I nowhave a busy career as a reflexology
practitioner, researcher and provider
of specialist RLD training, and have
been a guest speaker at several
conferences, including a European
Reflexology conference and the
Clinical Reflexology in Palliative care
conference at The Christie Hospital.

The entire programme is
innovative in the preparation and
training of students entering professional
practice in a range of complementary therapies.
Students graduate fromthe programme with a high
level of clinical skills that enhance employability.
Alongside this students receive excellent grounding in
research producing some excellent dissertations. CAM
researchers are few in numbers and it is encouraging to see
that the university will not only continue to graduate highly
skilled practitioners but has the ability to encourage
graduates into research. I amdelighted to hear that the
dissertation prize winner fromlast year has been
supported by the programme leader in securing
funding to carry out research. The staff
enthusiasmand support is to
be commended.
