Refinery Managers are focused on gasoline, diesel, kerosene
LP Gas is just a few % of the refinery output
Can interfere with Natural Gas production (dew point control)
Is not always understood at NG plants
Flaring LP Gas has been (still is) an option
Use it or Lose it!
LP Gas Its a By Product !
9
Portable and accessible
Efficiently stored as a liquid
High energy value
Very hot flame
Clean to store and burn
Extremely versatile
Excellent safety record
But its an Exceptional Energy!
10
Over 45% of Global Demand is in Domestic Sector
But over 28% goes into the Chemical Industry!
Where is this Exceptional Energy used?

Nearly 2.5bn people lack access to modern energy
Smoke fromindoor cooking kills over 2mpeople a year
Smoke in the home is 4
th
greatest cause of death
LP Gas is the most effective solution
Cooking for Life (www.cooking-for-life.org) was launched by
the WLPGA in 2012 to address these issues

What is Cooking For Life?
A 5-year WLPGA global campaign to reduce death
and illness caused by traditional cooking fuels used
by millions worldwide
A platformfor the LP Gas industry to participate in
the UNs Sustainable Energy for All (SEFA) initiative
Cooking for Life introduces LP Gas as a clean and
safe alternative for cooking in developing countries

17
18
Goals of Cooking For Life
Demonstrate the benefits of LP Gas to policymakers and
opinion leaders
Enable WLPGA member companies, policymakers,
governments and development agencies to reach consumers
Demonstrate the benefits of LP Gas as a cooking fuel to
women, stressing the convenience and health benefits
Promote the expansion of LP Gas demand and usage,
especially in developing markets
20
And its not just Cooking!
Kerosene is often the only energy
available for lighting
Extremely hazardous to store and
handle
Low luminous intensity
Another source of indoor pollution
21
22
The Transition fromSolid Fuel & Kerosene
Generates benefits across many areas:
Health
Environment
Economic & Social
But it has to be managed at a local level
Cultural Issues
Supply/Distribution infrastructure
23
24
Stakeholder engagement is critical
The local energy distribution
channel has a major influence
They can be a significant road
block to a country initiative
Indonesia found this in the early
days of the kerosene to LP Gas
conversion programme

Pak J usuf Kalla - Former Vice President of the Republic of
Indonesia

"Our ambitious programme to reduce energy subsidies by replacing
kerosene with LP Gas, through government support and close
cooperation with private industry, has been a great success.

Since 2007 when we began the programme, more than 54 million
households have made the switch in short, we have transformed
the lives of any of as many as 250 million Indonesians in just five
years."
Indonesia has led the way
